204,000+ KMs on my hatchback - should I sell?
Hi there,
I've been driving my yaris hatchback since 2009 and have driven a little over 204,000 kms. Although the car is working fine, but I've started to feel that the speed acceleration is now getting painfully slow and braking is not as smooth as it used to be. My question is that is it time to sell my vehicle mainly due to the KMS or can I still drive it? My daily commute is about 100KMs+/-. Has anyone driven their hatchback for these many KMs or more? |

Unless something is REALLY wrong the percieved loss of acceleration and braking is all in your mind.
Has the car been reliable for you?

As a long term owner myself (Im 59) with a lot of experience, dont get discouraged when minor problems crop up as they inevitably will in an older car. Just get them fixed and move on. Thats the most ecomonical way to own a car. It helps to have a plan and maybe another car you can borrow while yours is fixed. A Toyota costs more than others cars but lasts a lot longer too. Take advantage of it!

Has it been serviced regularly? Air filter not getting clogged? Brake pads and rotors in good shape?

I do get it serviced regularly, but not from the Toyota agency. Since it's my first car, I was really worried about hitting the 200K. But I'm so glad to know that others have drive more than that. I love my little hatchback. Thanks for the reply.

Keep it goin. Most Yaris' go for well beyond 300k miles. Check the rotors they're likely thin and can't handle the heat hence the weird feel. The acceleration is likely in your mind but a small loss could be due to a bunch of things.
Keep the car and save your cash |

I recently sold my 2005 Echo with 377,400 kms on the clock and it's still going strong. I bought a new Yaris (well a 2014, but only 55 kms on it) and intend to rack up a similar mileage.
By the way, my clutch was good up to 320,000 kms and three of my kids learned to drive a stick in this car. Go Toyota! |

Motor trend magazine recently did a "cars that last listing." the 08' thru 11' are all expected to exceed 250,000 miles. Number two in the econobox class. So less its broken, don't fix it. Of course Honda was number one.
