HELP! im stuck-headunit installation

head-unit installations

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

hey guys, im new to these forums, im not sure if this is the right section.

i just needed help with afew problems i'm having.

i've read up on how to do it yourself. got most of the info of this site. and i've previously installed headunits for a number of cars (for friends) yet this one has got me thinking.

ok long story short headunit is in. playing fine. (also did sub and amp) re-wired everything. nicely. only thing is...that wen you go to turn on your headlights...(the center lights with all the temps. a\c things and also the gear box lights) dont seem to turn on. i ran my fingers double checking over everything. fuse's. the only thing i can think of now is if i have the wrong ground connected. would that affect those lights?

any help would be great. i've also researched the wiring diagrams as well so i will double check everything.

btw. its a 08 yaris also 4door hatch.

Have you looked at the diagrams from the manuals? They might have some information.

This is to be posted in the DIY section

Check to make sure your dash light dimmer wheel has not been dialed down.

+1
It's to the left of the steering column. I don't see how installing a head unit would kill all the console lighting. Did you use a harness adapter, or just cut the factory wires?

does those 3 wires (light purple, orange, pink) do anything? @_@

You can buy a harness like this at PepBoys or WalMart that eliminates the need to cut the car's wires at all. It's much EASIER and QUICKER than hacking up a factory harness.
Some of the '07 wires are different from the '08s.

ok....this is what i've done..
i've double checked everything. ground..acc....batt. wired up the headunit. (yes i cut the factorys and solders it to new wires) headunit sub amp everything is working fine...

now the problem is...the center lights.(eg. temp, a\c...gauge lights and gearbox lights) dont work. the gauge works when engine starts. when the key is out and i turn on the lights nothing comes up..i have double checked the gauge fuses 10amp still fine...

i really cant see where i went wrong...i DID not unplug any of the wires in the back of the centre piece. everything there was still connected....i dont think it has ANYTHING to do with the dimmer.

yes i know i should of bought the adaptor harness things. can anyone help?
