Shift Boot ... revisited

I'm still on the hunt for an appropriate shift boot the the manual transmission hatchback.

I've come to the following possibilities and would like some input and feedback:

- Source the Leather Shift Boot used for the Sedan MT vehicles
... Does this fit the hatchback ring though?

- Get a universal shift boot.
... My only problem is, the boot won't be flush with the trim ring and it may be too long for the shifter (26cm in most instances, ie. Momo and Sparco boots)

- Get a custom boot
... user jcove had this done and I would really like updated photos if you have done any further modification to "button up" the boot with the trim ring.

Looking for more suggestions, and if anyone here has already changed the boot, please post your pics and experience!

Thanks

Just today I spoke with someone who has asked me to send in my boot so that they may make the appropriate Yaris Fit... On Monday I will send my shift boot to Germany so that they may fabricate a leather one... I'll keep everyone posted... But here is their website!

Find a local leather pro on craigslist.com and have them quote you on a custom boot. Its amazing how many people in the auto mod business are on there looking for side jobs... no better money than that which isn't taxed, you know? You'll get pro quality for cheap, and you can be really picky about what you want.

Hmm I haven’t seen the boot for the sedan until now, not to shabby. Anybody have an idea on the price or stock number on them?

Hey thanks for the pic IllusionX. I thought the boot would be made of PVC and not leather; the Yaris doesn't have the fortune of being accessorized like a luxury car.

The sedan boot looks like it will fit.. Wouldn't mind sourcing that part out first as I get a custom boot done.

Here begins my search for someone local who performs custom leather work.

I will post some pics tomorrow, if I get a chance. I've since had to cut holes in the boot to accept the clips or tabs from the trim ring. I just used a steak knife to cut the holes. The price was right, but I wouldn't really call it a custom, as it doesn't have the holes. Just use the rubber boot as a template on top and use a knife to cut where the holes are. The next step will be to use a little silicon to hold it in place.

Well craigslist didn't turn up anything locally in Vancouver.
I'll look into some business listings to see if there are any leather shops that operate here.

In terms of patterns, I'm looking at a simple black leather with double stitching to match the my interior which is black all over. I might get adventurous and get coloured stitching

jcove
Can you show us what you've done with your boot from lightning auto?
I'm curious to see what it looks like after you tweaked it.

Actualy I saw a picture in a magazine of a car in japan with the whole interior upholstery redone in LV patterned leather... Honestly it was a little too much, looked kinda gaudy...
