The main thing "high mileage" oil has over regular is seal conditioning additives, so that the seals swell up and don't leak. They also have more detergents to help clean out neglected engines. As long as you change your oil at reasonable intervals, don't bother. I think it's hilarious that the oil makers consider 75k "high mileage." That's low enough for a "minty" designation on eBay, or "like new" on craigslist.
"Extended performance" oil filters catch more contaminants, and can hold a lot more junk compared to standard filters. It doesn't have anything to do with the number of miles on the car, but rather, the number of miles you can go between changes. I use them, but again, as long as you change your oil on time, it's no big deal. |
