Too many people out there would rather judge a car by the superlatives in its brochure than its drive. Car dealers will may as well hand the keys over to powerpoint slides than automobiles if this continues. I've hunted down 330ci, Mustang, Camaro, X6 M bi-turbo, GT86, and 9-3 turbo with my car on the race course. It's not slow. It's not a question of horsepower or power-to-weight ratio. The car is as fast in a race as the driver's balls will allow for. At around 1'050 kg wet kerb weight, it's all driver, not car. |

This is too funny.
I'm sure the right driver in a Yaris will beat the Huracan Performante's new Nurburgring record. |

yeahbutt
It is slow, but also light and nimble. Once you get it off the line, it's peppy. No real torque to speak of, but if you drive it like you stole it, then it is still fun Me, I put a buncha bars on mine so it handles better That and the V rated Michelins, which I am phasing out and have two Z rated uniroyals on the back (still Michelins) Next up, stiffer springs.... I am gonna check the dimensions of the Prius rough road and see if those struts /springs will work

Not slow for me.
I just put new shocks/struts and lowering springs.where the yaris shines is in the handling.
I have the 5 speed 2DR HB and its peppy enough for me. I like this car more and more as I do upgrades. Definitly like better then former cars that I have owned...civic,accord,escort. My buddy has a 2016 fully loaded fit and I like the Yaris waaay more. |

I would hope a Yaris could beat a Scion iQ through the 1/4 or 0-60 mph. According to Motorweek, an iQ does 17.4 @ 80mph 100% stock and 0-60mph in 9.6 seconds. Is that quicker than an automatic and manual Yaris?

A manual will always be quicker then an auto. Reliability, simplicity, fuel economy and fun to drive is the yaris in a nutshell. I dont know the speed specs and dont really care what they are. You can make a yaris quite quick with mods. |

I'd be interested to know which subcompact econo box a/t are faster than their m/t counterpart?
In more expensive vehicles with dual clutches etc the a/t will generally be faster due to shifting time. In econo boxes that will rarely be the case. I've driven a fair share of econo subcompacts and the a/t always feels softer than the m/t versions

As far as the Yaris is concerned, the manual is about 1 to 2 seconds quicker from 0-60 than the automatic, depending upon which online review you read. The manual does the distance in about 9 sec under optimal conditions (no A/C running, single normal-sized person, etc.).

True enough. I'm a relaxed (never in a hurry) driver by nature, so I doubt I've ever done 0-60 in less than 12-13 seconds in mine. Sometimes I stretch/wind out the RPMs between 3rd and 4th for the fun of it, but that is about it.

After 7 years driving a turbo diesel Captiva, my 2NZ-FE Yaris felt much quicker off the mark, but it took a while to get used to letting the engine revs climb. Even with the small engine and auto, I get the traction control activating on wet roads.
This is the smallest engine of any car I have ever owned, but I have no problems keeping up with city or highway traffic. As others have stated above, the Yaris may mot be the fastest accelerating vehicle around, but it sure is great fun to drive. Find a tight, twisty road and see who is "fast" once they are not just going in a straight line.
