We've got a rolling photo shoot coming up with 15-20 turbocharged cars. THAT is gonna be the one. I'm going to smoke a couple sets of Subie tail lights this weekend in exchange for my headlight harness. The reason the bumper is f'd up on the passenger side is because there is a broken tab on that headlight. I need to get them suckers out.

Congrats Charles!

Never drag raced or even thought of drag racing, thanks for describing the launch concept--what do you do with tire pressures?

Thanks KK!

We didn't do anything, but a couple of psi out of each tire would certainly help. I was running 33 psi.

Funny thing is I think I may have still pulled off a 30+ MPG tank. That is with 10 top speed runs.

If you don't love the Yaris, you're on crack.

Ok, call me stoopid but what does missing second mean? You don't get the transmission into second gear crisply so you slow down while you're off the throttle?

drivers more than 50/50

a good driver can shave tenths at every shift. :)

good luck, any more weight reduction in order?

it's exactly how it sounds.

you try to shift into 2nd but you let out the clutch before you're in gear and you end up revving up in neutral.

or you grind the piss out of it for a second (generally that slows people down too).

if you've ever drag raced or if you ever do, you'll most likely experience the same thing. (unless you have an auto).

Dragging a turbocharged FWD vehicle with short gears is challenging.
I think they Yaris has pretty TALL gears. At least compared to the other FWD cars I've raced in (tC, xB)

Yah, I have an auto and would not know if there are special methods to drag race that way. I would guess it would be manually holding back on the gears until the right RPM? My dyno guy said that some autos, in order to protect themselves, will shift up to the next gear even if you keep the shift lever in the lower gears. I have not really wanted to test that.
