Door Locks Not Working
Hi Guys,
I have a friend who's told me her door locks don't work, she can only unlock one door. so I went checking and apparently her central locking works but the locks don't move they stay in locked position, and only the drivers door works(when it feels like it). after a few questions, she finally said her daughter plays with the locks and when she tries to unlock the doors her daughter keeps her hand on the lock so it doesn't pop when the others do. I can hear and feel the actuators in all the doors working when you use the keyless entry. what can be done to get all locks working again? |

If they are being fought while moving, then the lock actuators are likely damaged (most likely the little plastic drive gear is stripped).

No. Unfortunately I didn't snap pictures when I had one apart.

you can get a set of aftermarket actuators (cost 10 bucks a set here where i am).
the thing with the yaris is that the locks and door openers are cable operated, as compared to a stiff metal rod in the civics/corollas of yesteryears. that would make it a pain to retrofit aftermarket actuators. [Scott, thoughts?] unless you strip the rubber cover of this and do the retrofit as you would to a rod-type setup. like this: |

I have installed aftermarket door actuators on two Yaris and with the cable you do have to strip off the outer plastic jacket and snip the wire cage that surrounds the cable.
Since the O.P.'s car has OEM lock actuators, I would just track down a good used one and replace it with the OEM actuator.

Scott said this was fairly easy and I plan to do this myself next week. If I can do it anyone can - I'll report back when I have installed mine.
