Question High Performance MAF Sensor

I am putting this in the FI forum since I can't really see why someone would "upgrade" their MAF sensor if they plan on staying stock. I have spoken with a couple folks now suggesting or asking if I have upgraded my MAF. I was doing some research and came across this listing:

http://www.autoanything.com/air-inta...0A2171934.aspx

Would anyone have any input? From what I have found thus far picking up an aftermarket can be a real crap shoot as many times they are nowhere close to the quality of the OEM sensor.

in my professional opinion this is BS. the maf just measures the mass of air moving by it. the PCM then calculates what to do with that measurement. the maf does not contain any type of memeory so "flashing" is not possible. when air moves over the sensor a change in signal voltage is what the PCM sees. if the sensor is measuring air incorrectly the air fuel or oxygen sensor will see a lean or rich condition and will move fuel trim accordingly making their claims of increased fuel economy totally false. so basically the mass air flow sensor either measures the air correctly or it doesnt. if its doesnt, its broken. one aspect of mass air flow sensor is at some point they will stop being able to measure the air mass flowrate, some super high power cars that run a maf can have driveability issues due to the amount of air that flows by the sensor. some cars like Nissan gtr's for example will need a maf with a different scale calibration to run upwards of 1000 hp. but thats not really an upgrade thats just a different sensor that can read a higher air flow rate.

My goal is not to actually get better mpg's. I really don't care about my FE at this point. As long as I don't get less that Garm seeing as how he is running 24 to my 7 psi I am happy.

When you go standalone you'll have the option of going MAP instead of MAF. Until then, absolutely no need to change it.
