boomslang, ECU connectors......CTSCott

Hi,

can anyone provide me with more info about the ECU connector, pins part # etc.

Scott do you have the part number for the connector used in the ECU? Pins?

Are they crimped or soldered? Where to source them from? Proprietary?

I know I can look at it in my car but wonder if anyone here has done so and have the info .

MOD please move if this should be in another section.

I was talking to Jeff@MI about these the other day. He said that the Yaris ECU connectors are very expensive and difficult to find. If you want one, probably your best bet is to go to a junk yard and get one there.

Great place to start!

Pinouts of the ECU have been posted before. I have a couple of downloads on my forums in the Download section.

hehe, I got some of that info already, what i need is the part number for the connector. Both the one in the ECU and the one in the harness plus the pins.

Will definitely look at the one in the car and take pics as well.

From Toyota the female pins (82998-24250, 82998-24400, and 82998-12590) are about $20 each (and you need a lot of them) and the female connector (90980-12399) is about $25. My recommendation on the female side is to purchase an engine harness off eBay or from a junkyard ($80 to $200). The nicest thing about using an existing harness is that all of the wires are the OEM colors, and all of the crimps are already done.

You can not purchase the male side connector and pins, as it is a PCB mounted connector, so you have to harvest it from an ECM. It is not ideal, as you have to then solder and heatshrink the connectors PCB pins, which are intended to be rigidly mounted. The common failure mode for a boomslang or a DIY version is to have the solder joint fail, or the PCB pin fail from fatigue. The best way around this it to fully pot the back side of the connector, beyond the PCB pins.

Take a look at this article that I wrote for the Micro Image forum on building your own:

what can I say?

Or....

I can edit this post and ask you for a closeup pic of the pins and connectors if you have them on hand.
