New audio + Today's DIY project

Got real bored today and took the time to build myself a housing for my amp. I was trying my best to conceal any exposed wires and making the trunk a bit more prettier. So here it is:

(Before I get flamed about my harness' mounting location, I DON'T use my harness, they're just bling until I have a proper harness bar.)

Without the hatch cover:

With the hatch cover:

The back:

My next project is to fabricate a cover so that you cannot see my amp and sub from the outside.

Spent less than $40 on all materials:

$9 on 6'x3' black carpeting - AutoZone
$2 on nails - HomeDepot
$3 on Gorilla wood glue - HomeDepot
$20 on wood and planks (more than I should have really spent) - HomeDepot

I also bought a 11"x14" acrylic board along with some spacers (1/2") and some decorative screws to place on top of it. I heard that you shouldn't fully enclose an amp because it could overheat, so I'll leave it to you guys to help me debate if I need the acrylic board or not. Just want it to look nice..

Another thing I forgot to mention is that I have raised the amp 1/2" on wood planks, to allow for easier heat dissipation.

I had a roll of velcro which I used long strips of, to attach to the bottom edges of the box. Went out looking for a crazy road to drive on, and no movement at all! I then tried pulling the box off, and boy does that thing grips hard on my carpet lol.

I preferred this over screwing the box down, or even adding a hinge to flip the top open when I need to change a fuse or get to a wire.

Being an open cabin why do you face the sub towards the lid. I would face ti up or to the drivers side, I bet you get a lot of rattle with this setup.

Besides that it looks awfully clean.

Excellent clean install.

One thing though - velcro ain't gonna hold those things down should you ever (hopefully not) get into an accident. I wouldn't want those heavy ass boxes to go flying and risk slamming you in the back of the head. Mount those things!

Of course I can! Everything is mounted on a board of wood that's bolted down on top of the trunk lid for strength! I kept that in mind as I wanted goodlooks without sacrificing convenience.

I was thinking about facing the sub towards the front. But remember, I am looking to hide it from other people viewing it from the outside. So I won't be going that route, seeing that I won't be able to see my sub with the trunk open. That will be the only time that I should be able to see my sub.

Honestly, I don't get a lot of rattle this way at all because I don't have my sub volume cranked all the way up. This is what happens when you have your girlfriend in the car who doesn't like the booming of the subs ):

Let's just hope that I never get into an accident then

Regardless of any accident, I'm sure my audio equipment would fly around and become a projectile. Now, that's one thing I haven't thought about yet lol.
