2007 3 door 350000 miles eats wheel bearings! - Toyota Yaris Forums

hears all the info i know,
The car is my father in laws owned since new. the car is used for package delivery hence the milage. by the way the car doesnt use any oil and he hasnt had any problems until this big problem. He started hearing a growl and found the rt front bearing was bad. replaced the bearing and he still had some noise. they then found the trans main bearings were worn and put in a used trans. all was well for 300 miles! same bearing went bad again! he has since put 5 wheel bearings in the car. he has tried just the bearing itself, new bearing from toyota, totaly new hub assembly from toyota. He just called from lee mass and said bearing is making noise again. 280 miles this time! Any ideas? the only thing i can think of to check when i get the car this weekend is all trans and motor mounts. i am thinking that if the mounts are shot then its possible the engine moved putting side tension on the bearing causing the failures. the car has never been wrecked or damaged.

Since wheel bearings are pretty reliable, repeated failures are likely due to some factor outside the bearings themselves - a bent spindle? - maybe faulty installation - over-tightening the spindle nut, leaving out a spacer, something like that.

I would start looking for a replacement. You obviously got a bad Yaris!

Wait! There's anther 350,000+ mile '07 Yaris in existence??

To the OP, there's a member here with a sedan over that mileage. He was thought to be the only human to drive that much.

If you could get up any pics (odometer pics too) and more info about the car it would be great!

i have a getting loader whine on very smoth roads have not looked into it much but it does run with the speed of the car . im hoping it not the wheel bearing but till it really gets worse hard to tell exactly what it is and i have 58000 miles and im sure toyoya would call that a wear item so they will not take of it i bet anybody that has any thing that sounds like this problem please give me a heads up i know cars pretty well i could put the car up on jack stands and run it and see what i get kinda sketchy but i need to find this noise its driving me crazy

Probally the mechanic who pressed the bearing installed it incorrectly? The bearings on the yaris are pretty bullet proof. Unless he hit something really really hard to damage it.

sorry for coming off topic but, the amount of miles you have on your yaris (and continue to add to) never ceases to amaze me

I've seen on Hondas where the knuckle is out of round and that distorts the bering when it is pressed in. Dan

I'm no expert, but try looking into the wheel or tire. It may be out of round or bent to one side and is causing too much stress and bearing failure.

Do they still manually pack the bearing with grease before installation if so they may be forgetting the procedure or using the wrong grease ,If its just the one bearing it might be prudent to bring it to the dealer to have it done according to factory specs.

I almost made this same post earlier today. The only thing that stopped me is how quickly the bearings are getting killed.
