Note:
There will be a drivers meeting to go over these rules and discuss route before starting the fun run.

For Those Attending the BBQ Please Read. This is a guideline that is familiar with the old timers, but the 1st time posted on the public forum. I ask everyone new and is planning on attending the caravan to read the guidelines.

Safety Guidelines During Caravans.

Intro
BAC is growing and so are our caravans with the growing number of regulars. Safety when traveling in numbers is priority. The guide I've writen here is through my experience and others.

Benefits Of 2 Way Radios
The greatest thing lacking in the past was, "fast and direct communication with everyone." Urgent alert messages such as: sudden stops, turns, road hazzards or changes in route couldn't be done with cel phones. Increasing the chance of a "domino effect". I ask everyone who participates in caravans to please buy even the simplest 2 way.

The Lead and Back Marker
The Lead and Back Marker are the two most important roles during a caravan, communication between the two are very important.

The Lead:
1. Alerts the group of in coming:
A. Stops
B. Turns
C. Change of Route
D. Hazzards
E. Maintain Safe Speeds

The Middle Man
1. If possible with the assistance of a passenger.
A. Is the Acting Navigator

The Back Marker
3. Updates the Lead of the groups condition:
A. Alerts the Lead to slow down or when to proceed.
B. Alerts of possible dangerous drivers approaching from behind.

Everyone in between will assume roles as the caravan at times breaks into smaller groups due to traffic.

Highway Etiquette

First the lanes: fastest to slowest from left to right.
4 Lane Highway: |1|2|3|4|
3 Lane Highway: |1|2|3|
etc...

When Mergin Into The Highway
The leader upon entering the highway must maintain position and a slightly lower speed for everyone to catch up. The lead must hold their position in a safe lane, that would be lane 3 on a four lane highway or lane 2 on a 3 lane highway. Why?

This prevents dangerous weaving in traffic and panic from falling behind. Especially for those not familar with the route. The Lead shouldn't proceed until the Back Marker(s) gives the okay; then proceed following the speed limit or flow of traffic on the same lane.

Highway Driving
Aside from keeping a safe speed. It is important to keep the passing lanes open. Stay in a single line and not to have individuals blocking other lanes. Unless to take a picture or video, but tuck in immediately. Drivers who become frustrated in seeing caravans blocking traffic, tend to weave and cut people off just to get ahead. Do not tailgate, but leave a resonable amount of room in case cars need to get between and exit.

Safe Cruising
In alot of cruising type of gatherings. The meet point is some distance from the actual start of the route. Often driving through business and residential locations. We need to respect the people who live in these areas by following the speed limit and driving in a calm manner.

The public views groups of imports as racers and reckless drivers. They will call the cops in no time, especially in quiet backroad neighborhoods. Lets keep away from that stereotype and maintain a low profile.

Hi guys just bumping and checking for updates here. 1 week left until the the picnic. Questions can be posted here or pm me. Again this meet is a reunion meet with two members of ours, who had moved to Vegas.

Don't forge to bring chairs, umbrella for shade just in case, sun screen, bug spray (maybe?).
