How is Your Car MacGyver'd?
I just wondered if anyone else had done "special" things to their cars that probably wouldn't be in a manual anywhere.
I'll tell mine first! While stupidly trying to remove the license plate light with a screwdriver, I accidentally broke the latch that holds the thing into the car. My "fix" was Elmer's Glue and a piece of black tape to hold it up until the glue dried. It's still there like that, minus the black tape, and works like a charm. I can MacGyver anything! Hell, I worked on computers for 25 years!

I took apart my airbox, and taped the filter to the top portion of the airbox.

MacGuyver fixed a shot up radiator with an egg! An EGG!!! With the Elmer Glue and black tape, I'm pretty sure MacGuyver could make the Car fly.
Seriously. But that's beside the point. The best I came up with is using a Potatoe on my windshield to repel water. Sadly that idea was given to me by my 3rd grade teacher! |

I tried paint my steering wheel emblem black... after sanding, taping it off, primer and paint I wasn't happy. So sanded it back to plastic and used black electric tape as a vinyl wrap...
After 2 weeks of that, took off the tape and tried a black sharpie... no dice. So in a last ditch effort, used a metallic silver sharpie and love the outcome. Will post pics soon haha

Well, I don't feel as bad about the Elmer's Glue thing I did now. Thank you 33OH! :)

I lost a couple screw/grommet assemblies at the bottom of my front bumper after hitting half of another bumper lying in the middle of the street. Nothing a couple of paperclips can't fix.

When I installed my fogs, I lost one of the clip/screw jobbies, so I put it back together with a zip tie.

I put a piece of scotch tape on the brake pedal switch to make the brake lights come on.

Surprisingly I can't think of much on my car, except the piece of electrical tape covering the driver airbag warning light (aftermarket steering wheel = no airbag)

because the original piece of tape came off! (i know, lame)
surprisingly, the Yaris is the first unMacGyver'd car i've had. The bass boost controller is held in place with velcro instead of screwed because of where it is, but my older cars were basically held together with zip ties and bubble gum because of all the stupid stuff/mods i did to them.

Black zip ties are a wonder, and I have kept them in every vehicle I have owned for years and years. Lifesavers, they are.

Yahhs Sir! Zip ties rule!
I hit a guy and disloged the front bumper. Broke the plastic bolts that were holding it so zip ties to the rescue! |

Yeah, I have several in many sizes. I think I got a set made for cars from the auto parts store. Big ones included...great for bumpers and such! LOL!

Canibalized a small mp3 amp and a 12v to 3.3v converter. Hacked into the aux jack and power to provide boost to the aux signal. It's a mess of wires and electrical tape shoved beneath the center console. I'm not proud of it, but it works.
