Just bought 2015 Yaris and think they sold me the wrong trim.
So just as the title says, we literally just got home from purchasing a 2015 Yaris Hatchback in what is SUPPOSED to be the SE trim. However, on the drive home I realize I have no steering wheel controls, no power mirrors and no cruise control. It's my fault 100% for not noticing this before but we had just driven a 2012 LE the night before with all of these features so I thought, okay. SE supposed to be a step up so obviously those features will en standard. Which they're supposed to judging by my research. Now, I was suspicious of the trim level because there is no indicative emblem on the back of the car as I have seen in stock photos. Doesn't look like it's been removed or tampered with, just not there. So I asked our salesman at the dealer, are you sure this is an SE because I don't see an emblem to jndiciate trim level. He says yes, that's what it says on the title. But now I'm over the new car awe and thinking how in the world can it be an SE if those standard features are gone? It also had the normal wheels which I also though SE was supposed to come with a "fancier" set. No fog lights either. I would love some input on this. Honestly I am already considering returning the car because the 2015 model has a different seat design where the lumbar is more jutted out and my back is killing me from the ride. Likely should've gone with the 2012. Ugh.

A little bit of internet research before purchasing a vehicle goes a long way. Just the fact that the 2015 SE has the black/silver Toyota Alloy wheels, fancier projector headlights, fog lights, rear hatch spoiler and variant honeycomb front grill on the outside makes it a dead giveaway versus the L or LE. The inside also has certain key features that should identify it - such as the upgraded front seats which look nicer and are far more comfortable. Sounds like they dumped a bottom-tier L trim on you that was advertised as an SE (which I see all the time with online listings and such).

We researched a heavy amount and I did notice the differences which prompted me to ask if this was in fact an SE to which I was told yes. We called and they said to bring it back but we drove so long to pick it up. Nightmare. Should have trusted my gut.

Sounds like you bought the L model, which has a lower book value and resale price than the SE... so you got ripped off and are in a strong legal position to demand a complete refund of your money... or a significant discount from your purchase price if you really want to keep the car. Don't procrastinate. Simply make up your mind what you want to do and then get on it.

Another case of a car salesman living up, or more accurately down, to their reputation. Having said that, YOU fell down on the job as well. NEVER believe ANYTHING a salesman says. Verify, verify, verify.
I would take it back and throw a holy fit. Threaten to contact your state's Attorney General and then do so if they don't resolve the issue. Either they take back the car for full refund or you keep car for a partial refund. That's what I'd do. Good luck. Last edited by NYC-SE; 07-23-2017 at 02:26 AM. |

OP, if your contracts/paper work say "Yaris SE" or model code 1464 anywhere, that would be enough proof to show that you were sold an incorrect model. |
