Wiper blades ....

So I purchased new wiper blades, and finaly learned yet another annoyance of the Yaris, and this is that the passenger side wiper blade is really small, and usually not carried by many companies.

I changed them out the other day, and choose Bosch for the drivers, I think at 18inches, and the passenger at 13inches was Rain-X.

Well, only after 1 month, my passenger wiper blade bounces like mad at the top of the window, and the drivers side wiper blade had about 20+ lines in it and is streaking.

Such cheap wiper blades to be failing so fast.

So I was thinking, maybe I should but some better blades, but I have never bought any before to know which are good or bad.

I was looking at Rain-X Latitude, and Bosch ICON/Evolution blades, and maybe even Michelin wiper blades.

The problem is, that no one has anything smaller then 15inches or so. So I was thinking, the extra two inches shouldnt make much of a difference since the wiper doesnt come that close to the top of the car as it is.

So what is everyones suggestion, because I dont want to mix wipers again, especially if I get one that is just a single bar, compared to those original wipers with tentioners ever few inches.

Thanks.

Go to dealer and just get new inserts for the original blades. Real cheap.

I bought the driver's refill (they want like $50 for the blade assy!), the pass blade assy, and the rear blade assy from an online toyota dealer. They were NOT expensive and I know they will fit and look right.
1yr 3 months later and my original wipers that came off the boat on the car are still in perfect condition. Even after a NY winter!

Autozone has them in several brands and they will put them on for you. I'm thinking the installation or sizing may be part of the problem. Regardless you want the correct size or it won't work right. On the 07 you need 26"" for the driver side and 13" for the passenger.

I appreciate the comments, and quick responses.

The problem is, I threw out the old wipers, and now like I said, I have the Bosch for the drivers, and the rain-x for the passenger.

What happens if I purchase new wipers, and instead of 13inches for the passenger, I get 16inches? Will this work? Will they overlap the window?

26? I thought it was 24? Ok,,, this is confusing.

And why is choosing a larger size an issue?

Just going by their website and what I bought a few weeks back. In addition to the possibility of overlapping the window you've got a whole bunch of geometry involved with the length of the arms, where and how they attach to the blades and the right pressure on the glass. Since the OP was complaining about lifting and poor cleaning I can't see where changing stock blade length is going to help.

Generaly speaking if wipers are the right size, correctly installed and are in good condition they are going to work. Unless the glass is covered in crap that causes streaks, but that's a whole other can of worms that I will just stay out of.

No kidding - I tossed mine into the trash. Shoot....

Yeah, buying wiper blades for a Yaris is an experience of sorts.

I figured that overhang would skip up onto the body and lift the blade away from the window. If you had any damage to the blade it might scrap the paint.

Here's my personal "stash" from my online Toyota dealer.
The superlong one is the driver's insert, made in USA. The other two are straight from Japan.
These are for a liftback. Those are the correct part #s on the packages.
Hope this helps.
Back into the closet they go for safekeeping....

I put Silblades on the front but I had my dealer replace the rear. Silblade doesn't make one for the rear. I have had Silblades on most of my cars and they seem to last forever.

Got mine at autozone for about $8 each. Think it was 26" on the driver's and 14" on the passenger but it has been a while so can't remember exactly. Why did you put 18" on the driver's side?

I somehow thought the drivers side was 18. Im wrong, the one on there is probably 26inches. I need to flush out the window washer fluid tank.

I put in there some very old and strong window cleanr I got from this guy who cleans coach buses. I believe this is damaging the window/blades.

Even in the rain last night, I noticed it leave a streak, and even in HEAVY rain, the passenger side wiper skips badly on the glass towards the top end.

So I am going to try washing the window with alcohol, windex, and then putting some wd-40 on the wiper blades. This will be all after washing out the tank of the remaining crappy washer fluid. And I will see how they act after that.

And I have a sedan, so I really cant be using LB parts...?

I'd save the wd-40 for something else and use the rubbing alcohol on the blades instead.

Flushed out the fluid with only water.

Then I used Windex on the window with a few passes.

Then I used alcohol on cotton balls on each blade.

Turned on the whose, and let the car move the wipers on intermittent,

No more noise, and no more skipping!

Although the drivers side still has those lines, I guess thats perminent damage, most likely causes when I turned on my wipers the other week when it was dry outside. Doesnt help either that I live right infront of a baseball field and my car always gets dirty within 2 hours of being outside. So I will assume the sand caused the damage on the dry blade.

I'm also using Bosch (pass. & driv.) now. Working great so far. Only thing I don't like is that they're not as low profile as I'd like. Might switch back to OEM next time.

"Michelin wiper blades"

I didn't know they were making blades.
