Hello,

I will soon be upgrading my wheels and tires on my car from the standard OEM, 185, 15” inch wheels to some 17”s , but I have a question that I have seen similar answers too, but not exactly.

Original tires/wheels
185/ - 15”inch steels Yokohama OEM.

Upgrades tire/wheels
205/45/17 - 17” inch - Enkie EDR9 (17x7). (38 offset - which is best from what i have read).
Wrapped with rubber- Yokohama AVID ENvigor (H&V) shown on tirerack as a 205/45R17.

My main concern is rubbing/ scratching, I would not like to hear this very often – if at all, and wanted to know from more knowledgeable people here, if this will happen, and if so how much will it rub.

From what i can find on tirerack, the 205/45R17 and the current 185/65R15 have the same/ similar diameter, 24.3 vs the current 24.4, so i guess this answers my own question, and should be fine, any ones else concur. Only real difference is the Rim Width and the Tread Width.

Is you car currently lowered? Or will it ever be?

Well I know the 215/45/17 Yokohamas I just put on my stock 07 sedan kiss the front wheel well on big road dips i.e bridges and train tracks. Other than that they ride great and the ride height is slightly higher at 45. But still, the rub can get especially aggravating day in day out. I'm sure the plastic wheel well can only take so much before it gets annihilated, and from what I gather, that plastic liner goes for like $400 to replace. I'm gonna switch to either 215/40/17, but if the shop says there is ANY hint of a rub risk with those, I'll go further down to the sure thing of 205/40/17.

If your car isn't lowered then the setup you have (17x7 +38 offset with 205/45/17) will be fine.

Your OEM rubber should be 185/60-15, not 185/65-15. 185/60-15 has a diameter of 23.7" so you may well be advised to go to 205/40R17 for something closer or slightly smaller to further lessen the chance of rubbing.

yup I will be going with a 40 series when I am ready as well. 45 is too fat imo.
