2013 Yaris

Just curious.I was on the Toyota lot the other day and saw a 2013 Yaris( My daughter has a 2010) and noticed this Yaris' interior was completely different than my daughters car?. The odometer was on the driverside instead of center mounted,no more dash mounted "cubby/glove box(s)" driver and passenger side....gone!.Are all the new Yaris' this way?. They didn't screw up the engine too,did they?.

Yes, all the 3rd Generation Yaris/Vitz (2010 and later in some parts of the world and 2012 and later in the U.S.) models have 'in front of the driver' instrumentation and fewer dash compartments. I prefer the '2007-2011' dash and instrumentation, but the current setup is growing on me. I can't say the same for the seats. I don't like the two tone seats and especially don't like that you can't get seats that are completely dark (and thus are less apt to become dingy/show dirt). The seats on the SE are a bit better.

Re the engine, they didn't screw it up. It is the same engine.

Yeah, I was skeptical initially re the mono wiper, but Yarisworld member Absolutely Red 12 has written that the mono wiper on his Yaris does a fine job of clearing his windshield even in pretty heavy rain......and I don't think he'd write that unless it was clearly the case.

Ya, they screwed up(IMO). I dont see the new body style looking as nice 10 years down the road. The 2 gen looks good and will age well.

I agree re the 3rd Gen styling (not as good as 2nd Gen), but he was referring to the engine and I was just letting him know that Toyota (at least for the U.S.A.) hasn't changed the engine.

I got to tell you the mono front wiper works very well! (Lambos also have mono wipers!!)

It's the rear wiper that hasnt changed, and still blows!

^^^^^ See, frog13, Absolutely Red 12 definitely does think the mono windshield wiper does work well. I haven't tested the rear wiper in a '12 or '13 while sitting in one (I haven't driven one), but I trust your judgement AR 12. Wasn't there a past thread about a current or future better performing aftermarket wiper setup for the rear?....Or perhaps I am just thinking about people bemoaning the stock rear wiper setup .

I have the 2012 and I think the mono wiper works great. The rear wiper isn't the best, but it's not a big deal (IMO).

Is it just my Yaris, but does all of yours not completely wipe on the rear? I don't know if the wiper has enough tension on the glass to completely clean and wipe the complete length and of the blade.

At first I didn't like them, but I kept looking at pictures to see if anything changed, and then slowly it started growing on me, it has more of a "sporty" feel to it. feels slightly less bubbly and factory made. While the lack of cubby space is rather lame, they did include two trays at the top of the glove box to set things, which are.....ok i guess. The Mono wiper is much better one large and one and the tiny one the second gen had. No more wiper line on the drivers side! it also covers MUCH more of the windshield, and doesn't leave the occasional water splash when the wiper goes to it's natural position, like the second gen could in some rain.

We've been getting some rain here... and I think the "cyclops" wiper works great. It has a parrallelogram arm that alters the wipers aspect while in its arc and quite effectively clears the windshield.

It sure has a big ass rubber blade on it!

My local dealers have almost no 2013 Yaris's for sale.

Does anyone know why that is?

If I understand correctly, the Yaris is not a big seller by any stretch. That might be why they don't have many on the lot? The dealers in my city usually only have 1-2 new Yaris on the lot at any time (as opposed to 15 or so Corollas).

My rear wiper has enough tension and thoroughly wipes the area it was designed to wipe. I've only replaced that blade once. The area it was designed to wipe doesn't encompass as high a percentage of the rear widow area as in some cars I've owned, but it clears it well enough for me not to look at it as a safety issue.

I just wish they could have left the dash the same and had offered a dark, solid colored seat. The latter could be corrected by an aftermarket seat, but I believe some airbag functionality would be lost.

Good to know that you and Matti and Mr. Miles feel the same way Absolutely Red 12 does about the mono wiper (liking it/feeling that it does a good job of clearing rain from the windshield). I wonder, is that 'big ass rubber blade' (great description) only available at Toyota dealers, or has a cheaper aftermarket version emerged?
