Slot cars

Anyone here into slot cars besides me? I've got a collection of 1/32 scale slots and a Ninco track.

Long ago, I had a much larger collection, this is all that's left. The monoposto in the middle is an old 1/53 scale Wrenn pawl-&-ratchet drive from the early 60s, the rest are "HO".

SWEET!

I had three HO sets: Tyco US1 Trucking set, Tyco Turbo Hoppers "off-road" track; and a Tyco Camaro vs. Firebird set. I had a few AFX cars, too. One yellow CanAm car was crazy fast.

My old sports car club got into HO slots when the cars had 1/8" wide tires on them, early 60s. The significance of that Wrenn car was that it came on a 1/53 scale track, and that is what we raced on; the advantage was that two cars could slide through a corner without touching each other, and that made for some wild racing.

Typically, the mods began, and the track got longer and faster, a huge 12v battery became the power source, then one battery for each lane, the newer cars came with wider tires, hopups were almost mandatory, on and on and on. It all died when we lost our club room, but it was sure fun while it lasted...
