Seat belt buzzer is silenced

I seen this thread on the before hack days. But don't see it now.
I was really annoyed by that stupid seat belt buzzer when I take off my seat belt. I wear it all the time, but pulling into my neighborhood, or parking lots, I would release my belt. Then came the Buzz from He&&. I went to my dealer to get my free oil change,( I get free oil changes for a year) and I asked my service guy if the mechanic can disable that darn thing. He said, sure not a problem. I left the dealer with my seat belt off, went up to 55 mph and no buzzer. Light still blinks, but silence.
I seen in the old discussion how someone went into the console and nuked the buzzer. Or how a dealer said it was not a changeable option. In the owner manual, it even says the buzzer can be disabled.
I am happy now, no buzz, buzz, and more buzz.
So if this is posted elsewhere, buzz me and move it.

Dude!

Please let me know how your dealer did this... Mine refuses to do so, on the grounds that disabling the buzzer might disable the whole airbag assy (stupid, I know).

Welcome to the forums!

The mechanic hooked up his laptop to the yaris, went thru the menu and disabled it. In the owners manual in the back, there is something about customizing the buzzer sound option. This will not disable the airbag or anything else. Your Dealer is pulling your leg.

Well, I know it can be disabled (some members have done it in the past), but those guys at my dealer don't seem to know which code to punch or something...

It would be awesome if you could figure out the steps involved (through your dealer) so that I can let those boneheads know.

From what I understand of the situation is that the seat belts have a pre tensioner in them to help stop whip lash. These pre tensioners are linked to the airbag control system. In the event of a crash the pre tensioner in the seat belt and the air bags deploy.

Great thread.

I hate the seatbelt alarm. My dealership won't shut it of. I've even contacted corporate about the manual and they said they changed their policy for US owners. I won't buy another car from that dealership or any dealership that won't do what I ask to my car. Safety my ass. There's no law requiring an alarm.

buzzer on 07 sedan

Fyi, I could not stand the buzzer anymore so I decided to shut it up, heres how to do it easily. remove the snap in trim around the cluster and radio. unscrew the cluster, 2 screws, unplug the 2 harnesses attached to the cluster. when it's free turn it upside down and carefully remove the back cover, a couple screws and some plastic snaps hold it on. When you remove that cover you will see a small round black module (buzzer) with a hole in it, carefully pull or pry it up, it is plugged in to the board with two prongs, once it is removed replace the cover, reinstall the cluster and harnesses and enjoy the quiet. No adverse effects at all.

Except that you lose all alarm buzzes right? I sometimes leave my keys in the car or the lights on and bad things would happen if I lost that alarm altogether

I had the dealer do it after threating the salesman with a bad review. At first they said it couldn't be done but then I showed then a page from http://www.etimago.com/yaris/repairmanual/ Meter section page 11. There are 4Customize Parameters that can be changed using their intellegent tester. One of which is the seat belt buzzer. This helps when my old fat dog rides shotgun.

Is it totally silent, or does it buzz when you first start the car and drive off, then goes totally silent?

It beeps 5 times than is quiet. There is no noise if you take off while the car is running.

I wonder if I hook up the Code scanner from Autozone if it will allow me to change that setting myself? My Dealer refuses to disable it as well. A$$hats!

That would also disable the whole airbag assembly, since you would be disabling the seat pressure sensors. Not a good idea.
