Talking ANOTHER DEALER TRYING TO TRICK ME....I HOPE...YARIS RESALE VALUE

WELL i was curious what i could get for a yaris in resale value. so i sent it in, told him everything works perfectly 650 miles on it, power package, side airbags, mats foglights, and this is what he said:

Brian,

According to the used car manager, the value of the Yaris is anywhere from $6,800 to $7,500. I hope this information has helped you. Are you interested in any Hyundai automobiles?

what the hell!? i sure hope he is trying to trick me. A brand new toyota losing 7,400 dollars off msrp, and over 6,500 off invoice at 650 miles...that would be a first, he better just be fucking with me. But if anybody wants to deal with jim hudson hyundai in columbia south carolina, be ready for some real loss of value.

I don't think he was too far off the mark. Of course he's going to try to get the best of you...but...

You also have to remember that he's going to offer you bottom dollar wholesale. If you tried to sell it outright you'd get alot more than 6 grand.

Here's a stock sheet (or whatever it's called) that I got from the dealer last week when I was looking for a Yaris.

for the record, they only offered me 14k trade in on my loaded 2006 Mazda5 which went for $ 23k 1 year & 13k miles ago.

To give this some prospective - I was at my local Toyota dealer today and they had two used Yaris sedans in their used car area priced at $19,500 ea.!!! (One had power windows, the other didn't, and I am also assuming they were from the "Toyota rental fleet".

My guess is, with these numbers, that they were trying to get customers to feel that MSRP on a new YARIS - or Scion or Corolla or Camry - is a real bargain.

Bet they would price your Yaris at near new car retail on their used car lot, too

Yea i am sure they would only knock the price down about 500, maybe 1k for a good deal, ive seen a few actually....But anyway. back to the sheet that the guy posted. That was a 12,000 dollar car mine is 14,9 and at 24 months it is over 7,100. Mine is only one month and he was only offering 7,5 at max. so 23 mnths will only cause it to depreciate 400 bucks? Id say looking at those numbers he was def trying to screw me:)

Same here in Nebraska. A dealer in Omaha had 2 "used" Yaris' on their lot with about 500 miles on them. Basic options, maybe the power package. They wanted $17,500 for them. What a joke! I got mine with a power package w/ alloys & remote keyless entry for around $15k.

Hey, dealers definitely want to buy LOW and sell HIGH.

They need to pay for their facilities and their people and make a profit, too.

There's a differnce (albeit ever so slight) between "buy LOW/sell HIGH" and "breaking it off in you"

Yes, I think the $19,500 being asked for a used Yaris sedan was in that last catagory you mentioned, as was that $7,000 trade-in figure.!!!

the used market from the dealer for the LB's will be similar to what you saw with the used tC market.

people are willing to pay a premium to "have it right now" even if it is used.

the real value #'s to look at are ALG residual values that car dealers base their lease payments with. I'll look up the yaris tomorrow.

A new yaris thats only done 650 would sell close to its retail price.....private sale....

But its tru what they say, once that yaris drives out the dealership....there goes its value.

Is it me or are they trying to make back the money theyre not making selling it new? If everyone was correct before saying the dealers were only making like 500 on a new yaris seems with trade theyll be making a killing.

I bought out my Yaris a couple weeks ago, originally leased. Original sticker on our car was a hair over 17k - We paid almost that exact price one year after original purchase in cash.

I you feel that your car is worth much more than the dealer is offering, and quite likely it is, there's an easy solution: sell it yourself.

Used Yarii are rare as hens teeth. I think they would sell well no matter what. The dealer was doing a quick calculation in his head when he estimated the value of your Yaris. Most cars will drop like a rock, a Toyota or Honda, not so much.

Never think people are intelligent unless proven otherwise. Especially at used car dealerships. 650 miles with power package, and side airbags too, would go for over $10K easy. Probably closer to $12K because those options are hard to find. This is just my opinion. I bet a Toyota dealership would snap that thing right up, because they could make a quick couple of grand that same day.

I think the lesson here is to sell it private party.

I tried the same thing and went to see the trade in value for my 07 Yaris with 700 miles on it. I paid 13,700 for mine with Convience and Cold Weather pkgs, and they offered 11,500 for trade in. That's not bad considering base Yaris without options new is 11,800 but I owe too much to do a trade in.

It was also a Toyota dealership. The Mazda Dealership had no idea what a Yaris was.
