Passenger Window Just SMASHED!!!

Ok so I'm driving down the street and all of a sudden the passenger side door makes a gunshot noise and the whole thing is spider cracked. The tint kept the glass all together so my girlfriend didn't get trampled with glass.

Sounded like someone threw something at us. But it was dark and doesn't make sense cause the window was mostly down.

My girl thinks it may off happened when she hit the window button to put it up or down.

So what do I do?

Take it to toyota?
Take it somewhere else?
How much is it gonna cost?
Is it something I could do?

Am I screwed?

Thanks so much
Dave

I ran into a parked shopping cart in the middle of a road late one night. Didn't see it at all and it smashed my mirror through my passenger side window. No one was there, and glass got everywhere... Go to a local body shop or glass repair place and get an estimate. Odds are it isn't worth going through your insurer for.

How cold was it out? It's possible that if it was super cold, and some hot water got on the window, that that may have caused the window to break.

hmmm, not sure then. My friend's rear window shattered as well in the middle of the day. Toyota said that her flag with a suction cup and the defroster being on made it shatter some how. Anything sticking onto your window?

I don't think it would be covered by warranty. If you're handy with tools, you can change the window yourself.

My driver's window was taken out by a rock while my idiot lawn guy was edging. (he didn't bother to tell me about it)

DO NOT get an aftermarket replacement. It won't fit right. I had Safelite come out to replace mine. First window was almost flat and wouldn't roll down more than half way. Second one fit better, but still binds when rolling down. I thought it would get better, so I let it go... now I've paid to have it re-tinted and don't feel like screwing with it, but it's still not right. If I rolled my window down more often, I'd not be happy.

Get a new glass from the dealer, or get one from salvage. Genuine Toyota glass. It's got a really compound curvature to it, nobody else is going to get it right.

Many auto insurance policies have a no dedutable for glass replacement.
Check yours. It may cost you nothing. :)

My 2010 Yaris drivers side window shattered for no apparent reason. Not covered under warranty.

Tempered glass just does that sometimes. Once I was lying in bed asleep at 3:00 a.m. when the glass shower door spontaneously disintegrated, with nobody near it.

Wow, who would think it would'nt fit right?
Would glass breakage insurance cover the fix if you take it to the dealer? Do dealerships even do smashed glass fixes in house or do they send it out?

Hmmm I broke my plastic glasses once and got a replacement frame in the mail for free. I tried to install the lenses myself by heating the frame a little in the oven. I did such a good job one of the lenses shattered while I was wearing them!

I'm seeing a pattern

The same thing happened to me last year. I was driving at night, it was somewhat cold, though not excessively so, and my front passenger window just shattered. I was going atleast 90 Km/h so I thought it was unlikely that someone threw something, though I couldn't think of any reasonable explanation. So I had it replaced and went on with life.

Except it happened again this morning!! Same way was driving and all I hear is a loud sound and the passenger window shatters. This is just too much of a coincidence!!
