Maybe, but I prefer my recumbent stationary exercise bike in the garage with AC/DC blasting!

I think it might depend on what you call a "walk".

I often walk to the local shopping centre, about 1.5 kilometers away so I don't have to try and find a parking spot. However some friends went for an 18 kilometer walk on Saturday, resulting in some aches on Sunday.

Tell me about it. I use to run but too much strain on the knee so my option is to walk.

Can't go wrong with walking. I think resistance training is imporant, as well. Particularly as we age....

Walking is a very good cardio exercise. But, I don't think it's the best exercise. I don't feel much better after walking. But, cycling is the best for me.

Recently bought a new house. We haven't moved in yet, as my wife wants to renovate the kitchen. The previous owners left behind a treadmill, recumbent stationary bike and some weights. I have moved these from the room they were in to the cabana.

Of course, we are now moving into the cold weather, so the pool won't be getting much use for now. I am looking forwaed to next spring/summer so I can swim, ride and walk all in the back yard.

I DNRTFA, but....

There is no BEST exercise.

It's a combination of what is around you, what equipment you have and the price to purchase, and what kind of physical shape you are in.

Walking is great if you have a safe place to walk, and have relatively healthy feet, ankles, knees, and hips.
Cycling is easier on the ankles and (usually) knees, but harder on the wrists, neck, and lower back.
Recumbent is easier on the wrists, neck, and lower back except you cant' ride out of the seat (off road) and you head is usually right bumper height
Swimming is excellent and easier on most joints, but safe swimming places are not universally available.

So, it's not what is the best exercise, but what is the best exercise for you and your location and financial situation.
