Canadian Liftback or US Sedan Guages in USDM Liftback?

Can it work? Are the proper plugs there?

^ Pic belongs to Echo hrs

If not, what about the Sedan cluster?

Not to be a downer, but I have a feeling it won't work. I know I saw other or similar threads like this...especially if you got the Canadian spec, the measurments are different km/miles? And I'm there would be other issues. Also the wiriing is different and I think its different even from Sedan to hatch but I'm just second guessing that one.

Also, if you look closely at the Canadian guages, you'll see that it reads in KHM and MPH.

remember this is supposed to be a cheap international car. why would you waste labour on making diff types of wiring harnesses? I think this is a dealer question, damn.

considering the tendancy of most car companies to keep the same general harness from market to market, I would say the harness and plug are probably mostly the same, the only thing to watch out for, as it happens sometimes, is slight pinout differences or blank pins on say the USDM model with no wires hooked up to them, that on the Canadian model have the Tach wires hooked up to them.

well, good news for all :)

took some measurments and pics of my gauge cluster a few days ago, and have been meaning to post it up here, so that someone with a USDM LB can compaire :P

guess now is as good a time as any

pic of the gauges from my sedan, 2 plugs, the one on the right is for the fuel/odo/time, the one on the left is for the gauges/lighting, not sure of the pinout, but it is (iirc) a 40 pin connector, and i have 19 pins going into it, the top row of pins is full ecxept for 3 that are twords the right hand side, not including the last and the third from the last pins

pic of the mounting positions, the total width of the mounting tabs is 15 3/8" and there are 2 holes, the top being a locator, and the bottom for a philips head screw, both holes are 1/4" from the end of the tabs

and the total width of the unit is also 15 3/8"

i do suspect that the pins for the tach, and the ilumination of the tach may not be present in the harness, but would guess that the rest of the wires would be there, can not be compleatly positive, and as for the missing wires, they should just need to be run like you were going to run it to an aftermarket tach.

well, now it is your guys turn, pull your dash, its real easy, and check fitment/your wire pins, and lets take the first step in actually seeing if they might work ;)

pulling the dash to get to the cluster is super easy, and there are even nice little buttons on all of the wireplugs so that they are so simple to pull the conectors :) (used to working on old cars...wreastling with the plugs ><)

if someone with a liftback pulls theres, and can tell me acuretly what wires you have going into the harness, i can check out the extra whires i have, and then we can see what would need to be wired up :)

you can, just start with the trim below the climate controle, and then the 2 side trim piece, then just pop out the trim around the guages. like i said, its super easy, and the trim just pops off

I guess cars have changed if they don't interchange. My AE92 Corolla didn't have a tach, I just went to the local pick-and-pull and yanked a cluster out of one that did have the tach, plugged it in, and away I went. Hopefully things are still that simple.

Hehe, I like the White gauges of the non-RS models better! Prettier on the eyes, plus white is just so bright and nice

sorry. i left my mind in the gutter.

i think the white-lit CDM non-rs gauges look better- and they would probably match (if at all) the rest of the interior lighting of the USDM spec interiors better than the orange-lit RS gauges.

If anyone gets a chance take a look at the UKDM cluster it is all digital and you can switch from MPH to KPH with the touch of a button, for those of us who do international driving in US and Canada... I have someone in the UK willing to supply me with one, I am just wating to hear back on a price for the cluster and shipping.
