I never felt that with my '07 or my '14. The 4-speed works brilliantly, and I don't sense it over-revving at highway speeds.

there are several threads on th forum about fitting the C160 6 speed gearbox. The frame needs some mods to clear the gearbox. Also the final drive ratio has a bigger reduction, so you end up with the engine revving faster for a given speed.
The 4 speed auto has a taller overall top gear, so the engine revs are lower at highway speed, but anything other than the slightest hill will cause the auto to drop back to third. At least that's what happens with the 2NZ-FE.

I know. But Kinoma's earlier comment sounded like a reference to the auto.
The five speed manual has a lower final drive, resulting in higher engine revs in top gear compared to the auto. The six speed manual hasa lower overall gearing thatn the five speed, so the engine revs will be even higher at the same speed.

Basically he's saying the 6 speed has another gear, but due to it's design your top speed will be the same at the end of 6th gear. (I think it tops out even shorter, like 180km) you would need a custom build on transaxle to achieve your desired goal of high speed/low RPM. idk if the final drive can be removed from C150 and installed into C160. I would guess not...

The car will sit at 80 all day long and get great gas mileage. I know it feels like it needs another gear but it really doesn't.

The Yaris runs at about 2700rpm at 100kmh, or 2500rpm 60mph.. the echo final is a bit longer and does 2500rpm at 100kmh. But the Yaris really need this extra rev to keep going without the need to downshift to go up a hill.
You should see the first gen xB.. they rev 3000rpm at 60mph. Sent from my SM-G930W8 using Tapatalk |

redline revolutions per minute
1.6 L 4A-FE Corolla fwd circa 1991 is redlined at 6250. Encountered mention somewhere here on YW that Yaris is self-governed to 6000 max. (What does it feel like when this is encountered w/ foot on the floor?)

my rev limiter engages at 6500. the peak HP is at 6000, so it should go beyond that... peak torque is at 4200. so shift light would be best set at ....6150?

The 3rd Gen manual lists top speed through the gears for the 1NZ-FE manual as 31MPH for 1st, 58 for 2nd, 84 for 3rd and 108 for 4th. These are maximum allowable speeds in each gear, not necessarily the best performance change point. The ECU speed limiter will prevent you reaching the red line in 5th.

You can bounce off the rev limiter, I've done it by mistake.
You can buy a tach for not much money. It is a good investment.
