Spark Plugs - ??

I have searched.. I really have. Please keep the flaming to a minimum.

I just want to know the part number of either a denso or ngk plug to put in my 2007 yaris hatch back.

I am trying to avoid paying the dealer 15+ bucks each when you can get them pretty much everywhere else for 8 ~ 9 bucks (or less)

The manual states use either a denso sk16r11, or an ngk ifr5a11

The manual also states the gap is .043"

I know the plugs are iridium.. Online searches states that the denso part number listed in the manual is not compatible with the vehicle. Denso's website gives a different part number as well as the gap (.032 vs .043).

Can someone enlighten me.. It can't be this hard to figure out what plug to get without removing one of the old ones to see what it is.

interesting.. I was on Denso's website but not densoglobal that you linked. The manual states gap is supposed to be .043.

I did a bit of ordering today.. The car has 74k (miles) on it and it is time to change the oil in a week or two so I figured I would just get it ready for winter which will be here before we know it.

I have a warped rotor.. Not bad but needs attention. The days of dropping off your rotors and drums for machining at the auto parts store are long gone.

I have a set of plugs on order, two new rotors, two drums, pads & shoes, engine air filter as well as a cabin filter. I still have a new serpentine belt I ordered with the last set of filters I changed but never installed it.

I had the rear brakes apart for lube and cleaning a few weeks ago.. When the brakes would retract, I could hear a "squeak".. It drove me nuts. There are all kinds of brakes left but the right side was worn more than the left. I am replacing the rotors & pads.. Drums & shoes were cheap enough so I'll just do it.

I have had the car since it was new. Aside from oil changes, air filters, cabin filters, a set of tires, the only thing that broke was the water pump @ 38K. Naturally, on a sunday so the dealer was not open to get an oem pump. I didn't notice a leak, it was banging.. I could wiggle the pulley & shaft back & forth. I didn't want to keep driving it with the impeller bouncing off the block. After I removed the pulley from the pump, I could see that it has been leaking a bit. I put some kind of after market pump in it from autozone.

I can't complain too much at all about maintaining the car. It could be argued that it is too soon to replace the plugs. Denso says they are good for 60k.

funny... denso states 60k so you buy more plugs.. toyota says 100k so it looks like maintenance costs are low.. I figure somewhere in the middle, it is time for new plugs.

The 11 on the end of the plug number only represents the factory pre-gap of .043 which is what is spec'ed for Yaris.
You can purchase other plugs without the 11 at the end and gap them yourself. You may save doing so. I did so recently when going to a colder NGK BKR6EIX plug for my Blitz S/C set-up.

Ok, i'm going to jump in on this.

The service manual that came with my car doesn't say anything in it about changing the spark plugs at any sort of interval.

I'm right around 75k on the car now.

Good time to change? Wait?

What do you look for in terms of knowing when to replace plugs?

I am also noticing a lack of power and sometimes a rough idle sitting at the red lights. It is never a "hard start" but sometimes if I let go if the key too soon, it won't start and need another turn of the key.. It never used to do that.

If your Yaris came with iridium plugs then the recommended change is at 120,000 kl or 75,000 miles. Of course as Rockland Toyota stated, an earlier change could be a cheap solution to correct poor performance.
Mine was still running flawlessly at 92,000 kl. when I pulled them in favour of new plugs in the next colder heat range.

I haven't noticed any sort of performance issue with my car but it's right around that 75k mile mark.

Guess I'll change them when I get back to Oregon.

Don't feel like giving California 8.5% :p
