Foul HVAC odor

Hello I'm a new member on this website and i didn't want to make my first post a complaint but I had this issue since the first week of purchase.

I bought a used 2008 2-dr hatch about two weeks ago and I just have this awful odor blowing out of the vents. It seems to be far more pronounced either after it rains and/or after I use the AC. The odor varies from light mustiness to a nasty stench.

I've been reading that apparently debris slowly collects on the evaporator assembly due to no cabin filter. or water not draining out of the container due to blockage and stagnating etc; possibly the evaporator being replaced. (I cannot hear any water sloshing around and didn't see any when i pulled back the carpet when checking the reservoir.) I don't know much about the TSB I heard about either. Is there any place where i could read up about it and what specifically it addresses and to solve this issue? Apparently a lot of people are having the same problem?

I just would like to stop smelling hobo odor every time I have to use the vents

Beyond that for me. I learned about Toyota's failure to provide a cabin air filter from the factory here on Yarisworld. I just looked at my Yaris logbook, and the month before I found the site and registered, my last fill up was on 4-28-09 at 124,314 miles. I don't remember at what point after that I read a thread about the lack of a cabin air filter. There wasn't any issue driving me to learn more about what can happen inside the vents because I wasn't having an odor issue.

Canadian first gen didn't have one either. But there was a TSB to put a filter when condensation could happen on the radiator and freeze.

Since then, all yaris in Canada comes with a filter.
