MANUAL TRANSMISSION FLUID TO USE

I have a 2010 Yaris 3dr liftback with manual transmission/transaxle and soon will be getting that fluid changed. Owner's manual says 75w90, either
GL4 or GL5 is ok.Does anyone know which kind came in the car from factory in Japan? Noone at Toyota seems to know.
Also, I have read the many postings that strongly recommend GL4 over GL5, so I will use GL4. I have also read postings recommending both Redline MT90 and Amsoil Manual Transmission & Transaxle Gear Lube. I'm trying to decide between these 2. Which would you recommend over the other and why? Has anyone tried both in their Yaris and how would you compare them to each other? What matters most to me is to get the longest life out of my manual transmission/transaxle.

I went with Redline 75w90 @ 130k miles. At 170k now, no issues to report so far.

From experience on a few different cars, I've found it best to run exactly what the M/T is designed for. In this case, 75w90 GL5 conventional. The problem with synthetics is the syncronizers are designed to work with a specific lubricity. If it's too slippery, the syncronizers (which are friction surfaces) will not be able to slow down the gears which makes it harder to shift. I tried Redline's stuff which is supposed to compensate for that, and immediately drained it out and put conventional in. It was still too slippery. Just change your gear oil every 100,000km and you will not have any oil related issues.

Cheers.

STAY AWAY FROM GL5!

Our transmissions shift much better with a GL4 only fluid. I use Royal Purple 75w90. Others have good luck with Redline or Amsoil.
