2010 Hatchback - How long can I expect this thing to last?

Hello Everyone, I currently drive a 2010 Yaris 3dr manual hatchback. I bought the car new a little less than 8 years ago and I have loved every second of owning this car. This car has been able to handle anything and everything that I've thrown at it, including throwing a kayak on the roof rack and eventually towing a trailer with said kayak on it. Every day that I drive to work I put about 110 miles, round trip, on this car and I've never had any issues with it. I have taken care of this car better than myself at times but I just crossed 170,000 miles on it and it's starting to get concerned.

As of today, the car still runs and drives like the day I took it off the lot; I'm always hearing people surprised at how quiet it is while running.

This spring/summer I am planning to do a lot of travelling for fishing and I'm hoping this car is going to be with me every step of the way. We all know the famous story of the 500,000 yaris but I'm curious as to how long everyone else's yaris has lasted them? and what their thoughts are on how much more I can expect?

The car has been paid off for a few years which is amazing. As much as I love this car I don't think I'll be buying another simply because I love all of the features that my car doesn't have yet Toyota seems obsessed with packing the new yaris's full of everything I don't want.

Here's a picture, I know we all love seeing a yaris with a roof rack and trailer!

Ignore the rust comment. 300,000+ miles easily. Just keep up with maintenance and rust proofing.

Despite how it looks, it's been treated for rust on a regular basis. This was taken last week during some sub-zero temps here in New England.

It will last quite some time. Mine is at 179k km and 12 years old.

Beside a leaky waterpump and timing chain covert, nothing serious ever needed repairs. Oh and that axle gasket by the transmission.

Rust is kind of starting to catch. Trying my best to protect that, but i lack time taking care of my car(s)

My guess is your car will probably die by rust but probably not for another 150,000+ miles/10-12 years if you're lucky. You might have to treat the odd rust patch and do the clutch once or twice or even stick a used engine in it but its probably well worth maintaining. I think the lack of fancy features is part of why the Mk1 and Mk2 Yaris's are so reliable. Only other modern car that comes close in terms of reliability is the Honda Jazz/Fit and the Yaris is much more comfortable to drive and holds the road better.

as others have stated, keep up on maintenance especially yearly anti corrosion treatments and the car will have no problem going across the country for many years.

FWIW my old '02 Echo (purchase used) which has a 1nz engine was never ever rust proofed and ran fine until we scrapped it at ~385k km. The rocker panels were rusted through as were the original jack points but the underside of the body was all still completely solid. It had a layer of rust on it and all of the 10mm bolts would snap off if you tried to remove them, but its integrity was there and it was still completely safe to drive. It would have easily still ran past 400k km and it was only burning a bit of oil every 1k km.

If you take care of the body and touch up any paint chips then your car will last a long time. If anything catastrophic ever happens to the engine just throw a lower mileage one in it and it will still be worth it. The motors are darn cheap because of how common they are

I have an 08, it is also paid off, it now has 87,000 miles. I've had to replace batteries a few times, FL hot weather, now I live in HI. I drove from FL to CA to be shipped to HI. To sort of quote Dr. McCoy, "If you treat your car right, it will treat you right." He of course was refering to Enterprise.

Dude. Is there ANY rust on your car at all? Florida, then Hawaii. I'm so jealous.

Your car could still be chugging along just fine in 20 years.
