What does Toyota recommend in your country? I keep reading people using 10W30 in very hot countries.. but you might also want to change oil more frequently, ie at 3k miles instead of 5k miles.

what kind of filters are available in your country? If you can get toyota filters, just go with that.

1) engine flush is not good, it flushes even the oil films on the pistons/rings.

2) use a multigrade multipurpose oil (for diesel and gas engines), then use it for 1000km (~600 mi) then drain it and use a good oil like mobil 1.

3) never use lower than xxW-40 oil, since your country is a bit warm/hot, oil will thin out a lot if its like xxW-30 or lower (don't worry about the xx since that is cold weather rating). if your oil thins out a lot, oil degredation will likely happen more/faster.

4) toyota nz and zz engines were/are rumored to be prone to sludging, don't use conventional oils for more than 5000km (~3000mi) and FULLY synthetics for more than 10k km (~6000mi).

i would assume this is mostly city driving and since sludging is partly caused by pollution as well as long oil change intervals. if it is dusty where you drive most of the time, be sure to change the air filter every 4th oil change.

HTH :)

Nonsense. This is not like flushing your toilet or running 100% solvent in the crankcase. One uses it in small concentration (up to 10%), idling and and for short time only. It just increases oil solvency to take the sludge away.

If engine is badly sludged, pan has to be dropped to inspect oil pickup screen to prevent oil starving.

So yes, one needs to know what one is doing of course.

nonsense. You change your oil filter at every oil change! The filter can only hold so much...

if that's how it's done, (10% at a time), then it should be good. (IMO engine flush fluids here are instructed to be used as if it were oil )

I think there are better filters out there. I heard the fram has cardboard end caps.
Also, I only change oil every 10k miles with synthetic and it seems OK, but there is a lot of freeway mixed in with the driving. Also Mobil 1 has a extended version with a 15k service standard.

regards to all, Alan
