did you use the puralator pure one or the regular filter? I have been considerig the pure one over oem. I made the same switch with my crv( fit is perfect) since fram makes the Honda filter and they are the same price.

I've still got 1 PureOne in stock, and I'm due an oil change by next week. I'll let my 3 Beck/Arnley oil filters sit on the shelf for the time being and use up the last PureOne (yellow, not the old blue version) and pay attention to how many turns it takes from thread start to 3/4-1 turn tight.

I just did my 20K mi OC and used a new/leftover yzzf2 and again, It was defective and I had to take it off. Good thing I had hastings laying around. Put that on and all was good again. No oil flow through the yzzf2. T-Chain starts grinding and tappets start a shower of tappet noise. Almost sounds like and exhaust plug and fizz leak. Never had noise problems with the wix. 51394/96. Big problems wiith these asian filters - must be the paper is over resin doped or wrong sieve on the paper. Beware there are exact replica chinese copies around - even the security hologram sticker is duped.

example of fake:

Just did my OC with some of that $3.99 Pennzoil Platinum
From thread start to hand tight, the PureOne filter was a little more than 2 3/4 turns; just shy of 3 full turns for the Amsoil Ea filter that was on there.

It was O'Reilly Auto Parts, but it ended on the 14th...I posted the info about 2 weeks ago. Sorry that you missed it.

IDK for sure, but I think it was Advanced Auto, or Parts+ ?? that had a good deal on Castrol Syntec with filter ($25.00/5qts w/ K&N oil filter)

It's here somewhere, don't know how long that sale was for. Another poster posted it.

My car must have a short nipple on the filter bracket. Although I didnt try a pure one. How's that PP running?

I don't know if it's the PP or the PureOne, or both, but the engine is so quiet now I almost thought it was all in my head. I drove all the way home with the radio off so I could get a good listen--it is quieter during shifts and while pulling into the garage; that's when I'd notice the most noise, when clutching/revving while slowly pulling into the crowded garage. PP and PureOne is the best combo I've used so far.

Its crazy but alll these little things make a difference! I think the purolator prem + / royal purple gave the best 4000-6000 power, and the wix/motul 5-30 gave the best 1500-3500. Must have something to do with oil viscosity and flow restriction in the filter, though the bypass must be open at WOT at 5000+rpm.

Idle-3500ish is probably my operating range. Just guessing tho', don't have a tach. ENEOS 5w-30/Ultra-8 made the most noise, but still not that bad. Amsoil HP 5w-30/Wix made Amsoil Ea filter was a small improvement. Maybe it was that space wasting Wix bypass valve? Pennzoil Platinum 5w-30/PureOne made an even bigger improvement.

well, now i'm DEFINATELY glad i chose the Pennzoil Platinum. i had found an ENEOS distributor nearby(they only sold them in cases of 8 quarts?), but decided to save a few bucks based on the reviews i've read on here. like you said, it does seem to idle a little quieter(maybe it's my imagination), but mainly i made the switch because my car isn't just transportation TO my job - it IS my job! i'm getting ready to put the same thing in the wife's yaris as soon as i see a sale on it somewhere.

I switched to Pennzoil Platinum and a Wix 51394 filter at the same time. I like how they put the flow rates and particle filtration information up on their website, not too many filter companies do that.

I was interested in the EA009 from AMSOIL, but couldn't find it in Toronto. Oh well, saved a couple of bucks.

You can use the WIX 51396 if you want a slightly longer filter with more surface area. NO worries, the 96 has the same specs for bypass, flow and beta ratio. Purolator kills the wix for flow though. If you wail on the hamster, you want the Purolator.

I use to like WIX until I saw a cut-away of one: high quality and cool looking bypass valve, but very small filter media because of the large size of the bp valve.

Agreed. I'm wondering if the NAPA "pro select" (not gold) uses a different bypass arrangement. I got one on there now - but I have a Purolaotor-made Bosch going on next. Ist you still loving the Pennzoil Platinum? I was thinking that or Mobil1 AFE 0w-30, it has a good additive package according to virgin oil analyses I read, and its on sale at wallyworld right now for about $22/5qt
