Injen Hydroshield System

Well I thought I would give this product a test,
I live in FL, which if all you know, rains a lot during the summer, its rained for pretty much a week straight and nothing light, we have had about 2 feet of water fall within that week. Making it super hard to keep a cold air intake filter dry. I have read good reviews on this product on other forums, and thought I would try it.

Basically the hopes of this product for me is just to keep the water from soaking my intake without needing the addition of a bypass filter.

Quote from the Injen Site:
"INJEN Hydro-Shield Pre-Filters are race proven material manufactured from highly durable polyester. Uniform micron openings allow the filtering of debris .005" or larger. INJEN Technology's HYDRO-SHIELD Pre Filter are factory treated using a proprietary hydrophobic process which offers consistent air flow, water repellency and maintains horsepower gains."

So for $25 bucks I figured if it keeps the water away, its worth it.

I will keep you guys posted when it comes in and when its on the car. If this doesnt work in what I want, time to upgrade to a bypass filter.

The Mazda 3 guys use these a lot...actually they use the Outerwears covers.
The 3 has a big leakage problem in the wheelwells and there have been several
hydrolocked engines.
I see you have an AEM intake listed in your signature, not a K&N. Make sure the cover you
are buying will fit.
Also, I don't know if K&N tells you but the water repellent coating does not last forever.
For Florida I would recommend you change it every four months as it will lose
effectiveness over time.

Well there are two major companies that make these, K&N and Injen.
Either way I plan to replace the cover every year, at the begining of rainy season (we go through 6 months of rain, usually 3 months of rare showers, then another 3 of dry spell

I checked out the size for the replacement AEM filter, then cross checked the Injen filter. The filter cover is only .25 of a inch larger at the inlet than the one I have...planning to modify it, or just make it work by securing it with either the filter mouting coupler, or by using another method to get it tight around the filter base so no water leaks in through the inlet piping.

Oh and if anyone is wondering, these are the dimentions for the AEM filter.
Inlet: 2.25inch
Diameter :6 inch
Length: 5 inch

So if your pondering if you can replace it with another filter, I dont know...K&N makes a 2.5 inch filter that is 4" long, with a 4" diameter, I thought of just trying that one, but it would need a new pipe connector to downsize from 2.5 to 2.25, or just really tighten it on there to "make it fit"

I am pretty sure your AEM is six inches or so at the base.

Yep, your correct. Injen filters are 6 inch base too, so no problems there.

Hi,

If I should say... this looks like a sock for you air filter. It is worthy? I mean, maybe the sock will prevent your filter from a cold shower, but will the air pass in the same way? It is just a reflexion from my huge ignorance.

Your air flow will not be restricted. I sell tons of the Outerwears covers and the Mazda people love them.
If you have an intake that sits down low in the wheel well, these are a good idea.
If your filter sits up fairly high or you have an SRI save your money.

ok, then. If the air flow is not restricted looks like a great idea for a car, not for a submarine :-p
