Severe Cold and Your Car
Most of the tips in this article to avoid cold weather problems are obvious.
Keeping your gas tank at least 1/2 full is something easily forgotten (but probably a good idea to avoid issues in any weather). https://www.msn.com/en-us/autos/owne...cid=spartanntp |

I'm glad I live in a fairly mild client, but these are good tips even for here.

Mazda 6? lol
I had that happen to half of my car once. Was at a night club ages ago by the port area here in Toronto. Parked the car, didn't even think of it...till I came back. Luckily it was only half the car and I was able to get in on the drivers side.

Cold start Yaris
My SoCal 2007 probably saw its first -F (-5 to -10, w/ wind) start this am. No slower to fire, but could feel 5-speed pulling the idle down w/ clutch lift.
Completely new prominent buzz w/ clutch pedal down for first 30 seconds or so. Different, but maybe related to very cold starts w/ my circa 90 Tercel and Corolla manual trannies--a sound like little ball bearings vibrating on a tin pan? Came back year after year in both cases, w/ no performance or repair issues. Also a low whirr from the blower fan that didn't change in volume or frequency over all the blower speeds... just harder to hear at the higher settings. (Like a maple tree whirly being hit by fan blades...which SHOULD sound faster at a higher fan speed?) |
