Rattle TSB I found the other day.

I didn't see where this was covered yet. I know some of you guys have complained of a rattle. most common in reverse (on automatics). Well I found a TSB at work the other day for the shift cable rattling. The official fix from toyota is a zip tie . there is a bracket on the fire wall that the shift cable sits against but isn't attached to. Just zip tie the cable to the bracket, problem solved.

Pic asked

Anyone got a pic of the metal bracket ?
I have the same problem with my 5-speed manual Tsport !
I would like to compare the brackets and see if the tie helps me as good as with the auto transmission.
Thanks

Thanks, I was looking for that one too. If possible, please post TSB number? My dealership "can't find it"

since my dealership could not fix it
I would have to do it my self i guess
Thanks

Sorry guys just noticed the replies. I'll have to check on a TSB # for ya. I dont have a camera at the moment so I cant help you on a pic. But if you look behind the engine, on the drivers side you should be able to see the shift cable. Right next to it there is a bracket that is wire form. Its not solid, its just made out of thin round stock.

This fix doe's indeed work... I would never have suspected that part but I secured it with a Zip-Tie and the rattle is GONE. Good find ToyotaTEch21...

I recommend doing the fix yourself from under the car. It will take you less time than driving to the dealership.

Dear all, PLEASE HELP!! What is TSB and how does it look like? Does TSB related to our Auto box cable?

I'm having the rattle sound too on my auto yaris. But i can't seem to find any auto cable around my firewall. Some mentioned to cable-tie it around the cable and some mentioned to do it under the hood n etc. I'm too confused which is the exact sport to cable-tie it.

Pls provide some pictures to enlighten me. Me too want to have a "smooth" when doing reverse with my auto yaris.

Shine a flashlight along the cable to where it passes under the rear of the engine compartment (fire wall). You will see a flimsy wire thingy. That's the bracket you zip tie the cable to. I did it from above without much trouble. If you can get access from below it's probably easier to do. Hope this helps.

mine was black sail panels right above/near side mirrors. by front windows between windshield.

remove from inside fender, do not break...install rubber o-rings. yay. i actually used some foam rings i had laying around for a cadillac door panel.

I can confirm the rattle exists in 2010 US Yaris 5 door automatics

I was sitting idle...and heard...umm...a rumble ? or rattle...

anyhow....dug up this thread. ziptied my cable to the bracket. now the Yaris
is quieter in all situations. seems the rattle adds to overall noise no matter what mode
you happen to be in. ziptied....now the little piglet is quieter everywhere.

Went in today after seeing this and they have to order the part, but it will be fixed. I take it no one had to pay for theirs. I haven't, but I did forget to ask about it.

No apparently it was something else. Hopefully a new bracket. I can't speak for other dealerships, but the tech guys at mine are very thorough. It also helps that some of them I went to school with.

Hmm...noticed that I sometimes get a similar rattle in reverse. Not everytime though. I'll have to get up under her tomorrow and check it out. I wonder if I have to use an "OEM Toyota" ziptie?
