I haven't checked my mileage lately as the wife has been driving the Yaris, my leg needed healing and pushing the clutch was bothering it. I get about 550 km (330 M) on mostly highway, but the limit here is 110 KPH (75 MPH) and we tend to all drive 120-130KPH(80-85 MPH) and the way the 5 speed is geared it eats more gas. I can get 600 KM(360 M) at 90-100KPH- 55-60MPH steady when I commute the back way to work and that works out to 35-36 MPG US Gal. but more likely get 28-30 MPG when highway because it revs at 3500-4000 RPM at speed because of the gearing. I also have 358K KM 208K M on the engine. Oh and also this time of year with winter rubber and winter gas it drops closer to the 26-28 MPG.

Replaced all 4 injectors ($48 total). Never did the O2 sensors. Couldn't justify $160 on a guess.
We have been averaging 30.6 MPG for the past 2 tanks. And that takes into account the gallon of fuel that ended up on the garage floor. If you pinch an o-ring when putting the injector into the fuel rail, it's like a shower head when you turn the ignition on. |

Just filled up and last tank I got 31.5 mpg almost 100% highway. That was driving 75-80 mph. This tank though Ive done 255 miles and still show 3 bars on gauge so should do even better. The difference is a lot of those miles were done highway but @ 55-60 mph because of weather and road conditions. Reving 2000 rpm. Vs 3800-4000 does make a huge difference in fuel use.

So this time, I got 330 miles and the tank took 9.9 gallons for 33.3 MPG. not bad for a 2008 with over 200K miles on the clock. EPA rates the car at 35MPG highway and no car ever gets EPA unless driven like a hyper miler LOL. The difference between doing a sustained 80 mph average and a 60 MPH average is 2 MPG on a tank or about 20 miles LOL.

Keep in mind that EPA numbers are based on optimal, rarely obtained conditions. I believe I heard once that numbers are based on 70°F, at or near sea level, with a max speed of 45 mph.

Yep. The newer ones are a little more accurate but back in 2008 they were as you say above. so to get 33 MPG (US Gal) on winter tires, winter gas and driving in snow is great, I'm happy cause it means the engine is still as good as it would be at 20K miles.

I realize this thread is almost 2 months old, but I can't resist. I have never fallen below 34mpg, even in my dead-cold upstate NY winter, with snow tires and 15-20 minute warm ups for the kids waiting for their school bus. Summertime I easily get 45mpg. Hypermiling gets 48.5. Mine is a manual trans though. You must be idling a LOT, running way cool, perhaps previous owner tweaked something like the cat conv. Spark plug color/condition will tell you a lot. 20s? No way, unless you have a gas leak while driving!
