3rd gen SE and LE gauge cluster swap?

Hey guys, I know the SE model Yaris comes with a tach, and I noticed it looks incredibly similar to the L and LE model Yaris that doesn't have a tach. Do you guys think that swapping in an SE model gauge cluster would be a solid way to get a tach?

I removed the gauge cluster on my car (2014 LE model) and looked at the connector, and noticed a few blank ports where some wires could go, I fear that in order for the gauge swap to work that the SE model has some wires that the LE does not.

If anyone has any insight on this, let us know! If it turns out it works, that would be a pretty nice mod to have, Im sure I wouldnt be the only one who would enjoy this. Thanks!

(If a similar inquiry was made in the past, I apologize for repeating it, I haven't seen anything about this)

It plugs right in and works fine. The mileage will be different, you just gotta keep tabs on it.

If the mileage gets stored in the cluster vs the car computer the milage will need to get reprogrammed. Also my L has a tach

The stick shift L models got tachs for the 12-16 but auto match equipped L and LE didn't.

hey, I remember you! You're the one with the Tundra too, I commented on another thread about your yellow accents and whatnot. Good to see you here.

Hmm, yours is a manual, perhaps you only get a tach with a manual trans regardless of trim spec? I know the SE comes standard with a tach, because I've driven manual and auto SE models, all with a tach.

Anyway, good to know. Any idea how to reprogram the (replacement) cluster if need be?

That must be new. My '01 Echo is a manual and just has the speedometer, fuel gauge, odometer, and warning lights. Heck, even my '08 Yaris had the same basic gauge cluster(no tach) and it was a stick too!

Honestly, I don't think I really need to see the revs for shifting. I've just gotten used to it not being there.

If I recall correctly CTScott used to reprogram gauge clusters. You might want to contact him and inquire.

The discrepancy in the mileage is only an issue if your state has regulations on odometer disclosure. In Michigan you have to disclose that it's not the actual mileage, but not what the actual mileage is. Otherwise it's just something to be aware of for maintenance and service intervals.

So that means mileage is stored in the gauge cluster and not the body ECU? What else is stored in it?

And does this mean it's plug and play and it would work well enough?

Yup thats me! Yeah I would imagine its plug and play. I dont think changing the mileage on those is something you can do at home, but not 100% sure. I know a guy around here would charge me 100 bucks to do it on my tundra ( i have a cluster out of a limited)

Nothing, that I'm aware of, except maybe the oil change mileage?

Someone would have to double check the connectors and the pinouts, but it may be compatible.

Thanks! I can look at my car but I can't do much without comparing to an SE, so if anyone has a 3rd gen SE I would love to know what the connector situation looks like on the back of the gauge cluster

But shows km.

yes, they will keep it parked there until it is changed. so usually you cant bring it in on its own, you have to take the whole car
