The harness you need is known as the Scion legacy audio adaptor harness. There's a few pieces to make it work but I did just that on my 2007.

Yeah, the leather wheel with the perforated sections and red stitching. That's what I had in there.

Well ctscott used one of the wheels from a 3rd gen on a 2nd gen. You'd have to source out a proper airbag though that fits the 3rd gen wheel.
