Just disabled 2010 5door US trac, now it climbs dirt hills fine

Ok WHEW !

I thought the Yaris was a total hunk of crap for a little bit (climbing slippery stuff). on a particular steep dirt hill, when trac kicks in, it leaves me dead in the water, unable to climb this particular dirt road.

Finally I had a chance to try it with TRAC disabled, and the Yaris is the
Climbinator !. It climbs better than any other [FWD or RWD only] I have used on
this hill.

I figured it would, given the narrow tires, but TRAC always screwed me over
when I needed just a little constant slip.

turn it off, pull/pump/pull, trac off, it goes right up no fuss at all.

I wish so bad I had a switch to turn trac off. I will just have to plan ahead
and turn it off in advance when I expect it may kick in and hose me.

It seems to me a lot of these new traction control systems with no button have the same problem. It really is too bad that all new cars have to have traction control by 2011. Another example of the government getting in our business 'for our own good'.

Now people that know how to drive will get rear-ended so that people that can't drive can have a smaller chance of going of the road for no reason.

I know trac will be useful on a normal drive when there is ice under snow, or
a greasy road I don't expect to be so greasy...but it is a pain in the junk when you just wanna get up a hill you see... and can readily say Yah, I know it is slippery so give it some gas and get up that thing !

anyhow my goal is max 5 seconds to revert to trac-off mode...[probably impossible]... and I have it at 11 seconds now.
stop-park-off-start-<procedure>-drive off. I wanna build a circuit that taps my brake
and ebrake wire, so I can flip a switch and the sequence is done in microseconds.

am I missing something? I thought traction controll basically only helped a car from spinning the tires when accelerating... why would the government want that installed oem? Should'nt the GOV care about stability control instead? Or are both lumped together?

The government shouldn't care about any of it. They should mind there own business, they are bad enough at that. Traction control can do many different things depending on how it is controlled. Most of the things it can do is very negative for any driver who knows what they are doing.

They have lumped them together, so thank and SUV driver that feels the need to suddenly veer right when they get a flat tire.

If there's a way to add a cut off switch I bet CT Scott would know.

there MIGHT be, but an essential full harness for the off switch is missing, as well as the proper combo LED's

In those with off switches, the trac off is combined with VSC off.

the non-switch footbrake procedure only disables TRAC.

it is not known (by me) if grounding the ECU pin 30 will properly do the job,
(which would on a car with an off switch) or if the ECU needs to be reprogrammed. since this is all interrelated, and this is a US vehicle specifically programmed a certain way, I do not want to risk grounding pin 30 and trying the -euro- disable. 1) I won't properly know if it is working 2) could fry my electronics or deprogram

I am happy with the 3) decide trac will be off before starting up, and then turning it off with the brake-dance procedure.

I am thinking a multi-stack rotary switch would do it.

wire to ground

wire to brake switch

wire to handbrake switch

start vehicle, rotate switch, it will (during rotation)

contacts handbrake
maintains handbrake, momentary foot brake
maintains handbrake, momentary foot brake
frees handbrake
contacts footbrake
maintains footbrake, momentary handbrake
maintains footbrake, momentary handbrake
frees footbrake
contacts handbrake
maintains handbrake, momentary foot brake
maintains handbrake, momentary foot brake

should be easy to do with a rotary multicontact switch and
a little solder
