Oil change question:

Had my car 6 months and have just hit the 3000 mile mark. Manual says go every 5000 miles. should i go sooner because it takes me much longer to hit that mark. It will be close to year before i get to 5000 at the rate im going! LOL!

6 months or 5000 miles, which ever comes first.

Sorry to disagree

I bought my '07 Lift-back May 1st. It justs turned over 2,200 miles, at 2,000 miles I took it in for it's first oil change. The service tech told me it was too soon. But it is my car, and I do not agree with Toyota or it's techs when it comes to servicing. I feel any car, Toyota or what ever, should have the oil changed after the first 1,500 miles. For these reasons... contamination during assembly, and particals released during normal break-in. And oil and filter should be changed every 3,000 miles or 3 months, which ever comes first after that, due to moisture caused by condensation, and again, any particals breaking loose in the engine (from block casting, carbon, contaminates, etc.)
Cars driven in areas with extreme climate changes, and, or very humid climates, should especially be concerned with proper service.
And besides, You keep your car nice and shiny on the outside....Do you realy want to pull your dip stick and see black tar????

if there are particals and contamination that are not in the bottom of the pan or have bypassed the oil filter then you have other issues.

he did ask if it was ok to take it in after 6 months before he hit the 5000 mile mark.
lets not see any of this.

The dealer told me to bring it in at 2500 miles for its first service. Makes sense to me since a new engine has all sorts of assembly lube and small particles when parts begin to seat.

When I picked up my car two weeks ago, I was told that although the manual says 5000 miles for oil changes I should change it at 3000 miles.
