Gas question

So I have been wondering this for a while. How much gas do i have left when i am at one bar and its blinking? Does that mean when that bar goes away im out? Or does it go to no bars and then give a warning? I have just been filling it right when it gets to the blinking bar, but i have been curious how far i can really go with that blinking bar. Not that im going to push it and get to the points where i have no gas . . . well now im just rambling hehe

So basically my question is, does the gas bar go beyond the last blinking bar?

Just wondering :)

Thanks!

geez i was wondering where you've been!!

anyway, er i think beyond the last blinking bar = no bars.. meaning your car stops running and you gotta get it some gas.

Someone else posted how they went quite a while on that last blinking bar. Just searched for a thread called So I ran out of gas today or something like that.

yup you really shouldn't push it cuz it's running on fumes and just bad for your car.

According to the owners manual, you should fill up around 1/4 of a tank. It also states that you should fill up pretty quickly if that last bar starts blinking. On my first tank after buying about a month ago, I filled up when the last one started blinking and it took about 10.1 gallons. They only hold 11.1 gallons. Hope that info helps.

That does help, thanks! Unfortunatly i cant always fill up my tank at 1/4, but i have ALWAYS filled it right when i get to one bar, no matter what my bank is at :) Thanks for the info. I will try to start being better about filling it at 1/4 tank.

On my first fill up, I showed two bars left. My pump said I put in 10.4 gallons. Soooo...., with an 11.1 gallon tank, either my gauge is screwy, flirting with running out or I've got a bandit gas pump. I'm going to try another pump for my next fill up this weekend. Anyone else had this happen to them?

Same here. I have filled er up on the blinking line and have like 1.1-1.3 gals left. Today filled up about 1/4 mile after it started blinking. I got 399.8 miles on that tank. Leveling off at 41 MPG on average.

i've also heard that driving below the 1/4 tank can reduce your future gas mileage. i think it dealt with something about sucking in oxygen (due to low levels of fuel in the gas tank).

i drove for about 25 miles before with a blinking bar. filled up 10.5 gallons then. the way i look at it is that each bar is about 1.15 gallons (11.5 gallon tank /10 bars). and you should get at least 34mpg. so you could easily get 40 miles* after the bar starts blinking.

Our tank is 11.1 gallons rather than 11.5, and we have 8 pips on the fuel gauge rather than 10.

11.1 / 8 = 1.3875 gallons per pip

However, our gas gauge is not truly linear so for safety's sake let's say that the last pip represents just 1 gallon. Again for safety's sake let's say you average only 30 MPG.

This means you should count on no more than 30 miles remaining on the last pip.
