ScangaugeII Alternative?

I'm using Scangauge II on my yaris and about to send it in to trade it for Xgauge.
Scangauge II is good, but it's only read code when check engine lights on.
I'm wondering is there a good OBD Scan that can scan a hidden codes to see what is wrong or something about to go wrong with your car?
I saw one at pepboys the other day, i can't remember what's the brand but it's cost about $130 dollars
Another one is CarMD, but don't hear too much good things about it.

Yeah, what are you referring to as "hidden codes?" Also, your SGII has an Xgauge feature too. Not to say the SGII is the be-all/end-all of obdII gauges, but it seems to do exactly what it was designed/advertised to do. What else are you looking for?

there are two types of codes in a generic sense
----
emissions ready (evap and whatnot)

and normal ODB II
---
SOME normal OBD II codes will not light up the MIL until they persist through
a few engine run parameters before the ECU decides the code is real. so these are
'codes pending' and a good reader will show 'what is on deck' so to speak...

any 30 dollar EBAY reader will be able to show 'what is about to code, but hasn't yet'

you need CAN compatible

Like 127001 said.
Example, my gf aveo starting running weird, and the engine start to shake and make a lot of loud and wooping noise a week ago, then check engine light came on then off for about few hours later,
My ScangaugeII can't detect anything. I look at waters, oils, coolant....everything seem fine.
Well i took it to pepboys next to my work in case, and told them about the problems. The guy work there pull out a Code Reader that they are selling inside the store, plug it in, few minutes later came back with a whole bunch of results....like
1. thermostat housing running to hot, need to replace, the cost......
2. Oil level is low with a few more problems, and it's show you how much it cost to replace it.
Well of course i don't believe it, because everything look fine. Then two days later her thermostat housing busted,...........
Then i found out about CarMD, it's actually scan and tell you what's wrong with your car even though the engine lights is off to save you more times and problems later.

My Autoxray EZ-SCAN 6000 can read pending codes.
Can also read Toyota Specific Codes; if I pay for the unlocking code to enable them.

yes, you are asking for real time engine analysis, not troublecodes.

here is entry level for that type of monitoring:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Equus...motiveQ5fTools
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/AutoX...motiveQ5fTools

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Toyot...motiveQ5fTools

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/TOYOT...motiveQ5fTools

note on the price: it pays for itself, if you are an auto mechanic. this is CHEAP compared to what is out there. You can pay over $10,000 dollars and provide your own laptop if you really want to get busy with engine analysis.
