Good Books To Read?

Okay, so I'd like to read a book or two over break, but don't know what's good. What are some action or horror books that you guys know that are good, and have read them yourselves? I'm thinking about "Ice Station" since I've read online that it's a good action novel. TIA

I just read "Genghis Khan, and the Making of the Modern World" by Jack Weatherford. It is the biography of Genghis Khan. It is non-fiction and there is enough action.

I'm a fan of Clive Cussler's books, at least the older Dirk Pitt ones. Silly adventure really, but entertaining...

But if you wanna get creeped out, most anything by Dean R. Koontz will take care of that :D

The Halo books are still some of the best action books I've read to date. Of course the background story is fantasy but there's plenty of warfare and overall a very well thought out storyline to keep you interested.

Cool, didn't know Halo was also a novel series. I think I'm going to get that. Thanks!

I always liked Lawrence Block as an author. He can slice and dice with the best of them.

The Night Angel Trilogy, by Brent Weeks.

long story short, it is about a boy who becomes an assassin with mythical powers in a medievil type setting. I could not put them down. check out Amazon.com for a review and such. I suck at giving descriptions.

i read a ton of sci fi stuff. David Drake has some really good military sci fi stuff. Almost anything published by Tor is worth reading.

This might be a stretch for you, but anything by Kurt Vonnegut is worth reading. Specifically, "Slaughterhouse 5".

If you're into sci-fi then the Dune series is great. It's by Frank Herbert. His son took up where he left off and totally ruined it, though.

I am currently reading Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. I've been laughing my ass off for days. The writer takes Jane Austin's original story and adds zombies.

Other good reads
Wolf's Hour Robert McCammon
Neverwhere - Neil Gaimen
Good Omens - Neil Gaimen
I AM LEGEND - Richard Metheson (not the story from the recent movie.. Much better)

Anything by Stephen King or John Grisham.

If you like things similar to the CSI shows, any of the books by Jefferson Bass (4 books, all of which deal with the Body Farm).

There's also Patricia Cornwell's Kay Scarpetta series.

If you like vampires, Faith Hunter has 2(?) books out about a vampire hunter who's also a shapeshifter.

I'd have to look over my collection to give you more ideas. My tastes include mystery, horror, sci-fi (if it's vampires)...

Although they are completely different from each other, two of my favorite authors are Albert Camus and Robert Ludlum.

I'm into "The Outline of History" by HG Wells right now (yeah, THAT HG Wells). Publication date 1931, 1200 pages. Dry in spots, but every page is informative...

Richard Russo. He wrote Empire Falls (got a Pulitzer Prize for that novel)
and a whole bunch of other stuff. I like him a lot.
Just finished Mohawk, not as good as some of his more recent stuff, but still good.
Getting ready to read Bridge of Sighs now.

Ender's Game and subsequent books in the series by Orson Scott Card. Considered Sci-Fi but actually more about the characters in the stories.
