Question Question about Yaris manual transmissions

Hi all.

I want to get a general idea about 2nd gen Yaris manual transmissions. Especially would like to get North American owners input since there is a lot of highway drive there.

This is to do with the ratios.

According to my tacho in the Vitz RS, at 100kmh (60mph) engine does 3200rpm in 5th gear. I find this a little bit high when I compare it to the sedan I have in auto; Vios, which at 100kmh it does 2500rpm in 4th.

Do any other 2nd gen Yaris manual transmissions do any better ? any one get higher speeds with lower rpm ?

I would like to know if different markets use different ratios.

Yes I can help.

Worries about revs at speed are pretty much meaningless. Auto trans have lower revs because of the high torque generated by the torque converter.

You could put bigger rims on if you really want lower revs. But that would be kind of silly...IMHO!

I ride motorcycles and they get great mpg, last as long as cars, (well...Harleys dont!)and rev about 4000 rpm at 60 mph.

I have a 2008 and seems to be around 3000 or so at 60 (i really haven't pais that much attention). The auto probably is different given different gear ratios. You could swap out the final drive gear but the expense would probably never pay for itself and it would be a bit of a dog in the lower gears.

I have been very happy with mine and i haven't heard of anyone having transmission issues on the yaris. Embrace the revs.... they're awesome.

70mph at 3000rpm I would love. I think at 70mph I am close to 4000rpm.

I saw some dude swap out his c150 transmission on his Paseo for a c151. Its a direct replacement does not need any modification. The gear boxes are identical except for 5th gear which has lower ratio on the latter. He got an improvement in speed and fuel consumption.

From what I see, the c151 is compatible with 1nzfe . I maybe able to dig one up for cheap. It maybe a future ambitious project. Definitely wont do it until I move out of this shoebox apartment

Thanks for the info guys

My 2011 Yaris (US) turns 3,000RPM @70MPH (indicated) exactly, according to the gauges. It is the sweet spot for the Tanabe Medalion Touring muffler.

The oversea RS have a transmission that revs a bit higher for performance.
I believe you should be able to swap the sedan's transmission in your vitz.
