Yaris 200k

Hello everyone, hope to be in the good section of the forum.

I currently own a 2004 Pontiac Sunfire (180k miles), which I split with my sister, so transport can be a little tricky, because half the time one of us takes the bus while the other have the car (both going to college).

Thing is, I'd really like to get a Yaris. I do a lot of mileage, always on the highway, and fuel efficiency it's a nice car to get. I have been told that the Yaris uses the same pieces (engine, transmission, etc) as the echo, which is reliable - a friend of mine got an echo with 355k miles on it because it is well maintained.

Downside, my budget can be up to 4000$, maybe 4500$. Only Yaris I have found were around 3500-4500 and had 190k to 200k miles.

My question is, paying like 3500$ for a 190k miles Yaris, which has been well maintained, is it worth it? Or is it better to get one with lower mileage?

Thanks in advance!

I would pay $3500 for a 190k Yaris IF I liked the looks of the seller AND the car was well maintained.

But then, I am an experienced judge of carflesh.

I would expect the car will need a certain ammount of work every year and would budget accordingly.

I agree with Bronsin.

Although I swear that I have seen under 100K km Yaris for sale in Canada for well under the $5000 mark.

I am actually in the same boat shopping for a 1st gen Scion XB for my daughter. For under $5000 I can get a 150K mile+ one (with the same engine as the Yaris and Echo) or for $9000 - $11000 I can get a low mileage one.

Yea, if you are talking km, then just make sure it is well maintained and the car should last for a long time, plus the repairs for the Yaris are damn cheap compared to other cars, and it is really easy to work on as well.

My Yaris just turned 221,000 miles and the only things that have failed on me is wear n' tear items like a battery, alternator, etc. I've checked the oil and it still doesn't use a drop as far as I can tell.

The AC compressor started dying last week but that was due to massive flooding in the area, before the flood there was no noise and everything worked fine. After the flood, the bearings making a grinding noise was unbearable. I blame it's failure on the water that the compressor was submerged under.

If I lose, winner takes my happy meal. But if I win, I take the burger and the toy. To some people, that's more important.
