well try going to your local circuit city and see if they have anything left there
as you know, or may not know, all circuit cities are closing down, and so they have tons of things on sale.
here in vb just a couple weeks ago i believe i saw a tomtom gps for around 120
but im not sure what model it was

I have the garmin 760. It's great. Very pleased with it and my mom has the garmin 750. The only difference is bluetooth. I paid like $300, but I think they are less than $230 now. Try Amazon.

Got the new ToMTom 125 for $99 at Staples. Case was free after rebate too! Good loud speaker.
Nice no nonsense unit...

I actually don't need directions -- I need a GPS that just shows my locations, for hiking and tracking exercises. Recommendations? If this is a thread jack, lemme know I'll start a new one.

I think it's a crap shoot when it comes to maps and directions. Friend of mine is on his second Garmin. The latest one is the top end 860. Both, with updated maps, did not have my street which has existed since atleast the 1930s. Not only does it not recognize the name, the map itself shows Winston Churchill Blvd to the east of me, and Ninth Line to the west. Tenth Line, my street situated between those two, does not even appear. My middle-of-the-line TomTom has it, and even knows the heritage designation of my area.

BTW, got my TomTom via Airmiles redemption. Can't beat that for price.

^ how can they be pulling/loading two data sets? Wouldn't Garmin send all of its units the same data? Strange.

Maybe someone else can post some knowledge about how these things work.

I have a garmin that I switch out between my two planes but easy enough to say it is out of everybody's price range. I use a tom tom one in my car that was $149 it works fine as long as the road hasn't changed otherwise interesting things will happen.

Just got a garmin 760 from Amazon for 199$ shipped. Nice unit- gives speed limit for the road you are driving on and has settings for bicycles and hiking, bluetooth enabled, and has traffic and detour info

If you have a PDA you can get it all for free. There are plenty of torrents for that out there Garmin and TomTom.

For free maps check out these guys, they seem to know it all and constantly update.

http://www.gpsunderground.com/forums/index.php

I have my HTC 8125 with an External Bluetooth GPS attenna which is around $60 running tomtom with the US and Canada maps.
Total software/maps cost $0

Pm me for more details or just look around through that forum above.

I have a Garmin nuvi 200
It was pretty good until it started updating its maps and now, I am getting routes that I have never knew existed (ie, it took me to a drive on a side of mountain when I could have easily just taken a freeway)
