Installing Airconditioning on a non a/c yaris

Has anyone tried this? Even in southern ontario, it gets brutal somedays and you cant really be in the car too long. We got a good deal on the car two years ago, and didnt even bother to check. its an 08 yaris sedan base.

Anyways, I'm assuming many of these parts can be found at the scrap yard. One of the local yards sells an a/c changeover package off any car for $90, some cheaper, if you can find it.

I'm assuming you would need a high and low pressure hose, condenser, evaporator and compressor, and a new larger serpentine belt

Is that too much of a hassle or do they sell smaller 12v a/c units

No but seriously though. How hard of a task with this be to accomplish? I've heard of people going to the dealers and installing them there. I was thinking the scrap yard might be a better alternative

I know one can get a kit from Toyota, last time I looked it was around 900$ plus install but yes u could find a used one just the effort removing and hopping it all works is another story.

Just make sure you don't need the entire HVAC unit from inside the car. Like if there's one for A/C and a non A/C unit. Though I doubt they make two separate ones.

For a idea of the parts, electrical diagrams and more you can see the Toyota Tech free accesory installation manuals: Toyota Service Information
Your car is a sedan and the manuals are more about european hatchbacks, I dont think there is much diffrence in the systems.
The principal parts maybe can be from salvaged cars (compressor, evaporator, condenser, pipes?) but maybe is necessary some electrical modifications. frankly, it does not sound cheap

I don't recommend it, but if I had to do it I'd try to get a same year parts car, maybe one that's been rear-ended.
