5w-20 conventional motor oil : Anyone using it ...

since the approval by TOYOTA for use in the YARIS ? If yes , what brand of oil ( PENNZOIL , CASTROL , etc. ) and for how long have you been using the 5w-20 ? Would like to put it to use for colder months ahead . THANKS

um...actually i had heard people use those before....but for myself i prefer sticking to OE 5w-30 or even 0w-30....and i would recommend using synthetic oil instead of conventional oil due to it'll last way longer than conventional oils....as for brand wise...i would go with either Pennzoil (Ultra one) or Mobile One....or even Royal Purple as well...Royal Purple, from what i have been told will last up to 10k before changing new oils....Mobile One and Pennzoil (Ultra one) will go up to 5k-8k....you can also add some lube with the oils...it'll run better as well...for lube wise....i like using either Lucas or Motor up....

Best advice I can give is pick up some Toyota 0W-20 synthetic. About a buck more than conventional, and a fantastic, GRP IV oil at a phenomenal price (I heard <$6/qt).

toyota OEM synthetic is actually mobile one. u can make a nice funnel with the mobile one oil container by cutting the bottom out of an empty bottle and the screwing the top of the bottle where the oil cap goes. threads match exactly. i think most if not ALL toyota/lexus valve covers use the same oil cap. its a awesome little thing toyota gots going with mobile one..

When did Toyota give the ok to use 5-20 in the Yaris? Any significance to the change from 5-30?

First oil I used in my Yaris was Eneos 5w-30, and wanted to switch to their 5w-20 full synthetic but never had the guts to. Probably should have and not worried about it, I guess.
