Baby Moons

Made an adapter for baby moons (at least 1 wheel). The rest will be done within a week, and will paint wheels silver or charcoal....the beauty rings come last. Sorry about poor picture but I use what I got. 1st test drive stayed on well, but have to put a few miles on before completing the rest.

These are the larger size 9+ inches in diameter....the smaller under 8 inch diameter may look better, but these were cheap for a 1st try.

I saw this guy in a hoopty with wire wheels and either shoe polish or a really bad spray paint job on his tires, he was trying to pull off a wide white wall but man was it a mess

from a good distance I thought they were for real but the closer I got the more you could see what a big damn mess he made

Have only the one wheel mounted so lookin a little odd.....but driven about 50 miles with a burst up to 90 to check the adapter. Won't have the other 3 done till sometime next week. Will paint the rims tomorrow then should have pictures posted by mid week.

Contemplating the wide whites but Coker Tire wants $170 apiece. May try one of the tire paints, but like Brick say's ....awfull easy to end up with crap.

Unless you are sanding all the letters and numbers off of your original tires, then dont go the painted route.

Ive seen it done in person before, and as long as all that craps removed first, you would never know they were painted 'whites.

Pic's just taken. one with the painted wheel and adapter brakets shown, and 2 others showing the whole car...still with stock hubcap on rear. Beauty rings may improve the looks but no cash now. IMO much better than stock...look like early european??

damn sweet looking job!

that looks great. if you put a beauty ring on that then I will be very jealous, that looks perfect, don't even need a white wall

you could make some money selling those adapters

wow, nice results! looks sweet on silver steelies

so you made adaptor bracket from what, aluminum? how did you attach each bracket to center ring that fits around steelie hub? what about ring itself? tools required? how much to make (in money and time)?

sorry, so many ?s... i just really like this kind of cheap clever mod...

Had a different idea at first but ended up cheap and dirty......1/8" X 1" hot rolled steel (softer and easier to work with than cold rolled). Cut it 4.5" long and drilled a 5/8" hole 1" from the ends. I ground the short end so the wheel stud was centered, yet the end butted up against the center of the wheel....this was to keep each of the 4 brackets locked in place with the lug nut tightened (4 pieces/wheel is good enough for me but anything production should be a 1 piece). The bends on these were done by hammering and using any hard object available for an anvil.....the next 3 wheels will be much easier at work with proper bending equipment. The 5/8" hole is a little small, but mushrooms out enough (thanks to the hot rolled, possibly aluminum would work better as long as it's tempered enough to hold its shape but not to much to bend!). I have over 150 miles on so far and haven't had a problem with this wheel, and don't think I will.

If anyone does do this try to get the smaller (old chrysler products) 7+" diameter moons, I think they would look better because they would sit inside the wheel 'dish'. The 9+" ones I'm putting on, stick out from the wheel quite a ways, and looked a little odd from the front or rear at first but I'm getting more used to it.....just not a look that everyone would like!
