Old car issues
So I was going to get me car rustproofed and decided to pull the side skirts and rear bumper off to get to all those hidden hard to get area. Well I discover the inevitable. RUST. Fack! I new it would eventually stike.
The driver's side looks almost the same as this but not quite as bad. Rusted really bad. |

That sucks however you have nice wheels and tires and a sexy exhaust system.

I'm probably going to fix it myself. I've done bodywork on other cars in the past so I have a fair idea of what's involved.

I grew up in upstate NY in the 60s and thats what our older cars looked like then from the winters. Swiss cheese!
The new ones dont seem to rust as much. But rust in Canada looks like a serious proposition!

'60s, '70s and '80s that is what a new car looked like after 4 years. Blue, how much of that do you blame on skirts? You're only 1 year older than mine and I'm not showing anything like that yet. I don't have skirts tho and have never wanted them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I'm not sure where the point of penetration was but it definitely rusted from the inside out. There a whole bunch of body plug holes in the rockers and only 1 out of the 4 clips that are supposed to hold the skirts on was actually in so I'm sure the years and years of being exposed and open is what did it.
The part I cut open was all full of sand. |

I guess that I am glad that I live in "rust free" southern Arizona.

What's happening with your brake rotors, too? Are winters that harsh up there?

Your beautiful car is rusty and full of holes. Sad.

Alberta, which has much worse winter conditions than we experience here in southern Ontario, has vehicles that fair much better as they do not throw down salt and brine as freely and liberally out there. They apparently like their sand. When used car shopping, being able to snag an Alberta car is a big plus.

I think I've driven my car 4 times in the last 3 months this summer. That's just from sitting for a week. I just services all the brakes and sanded all the rotors by hand. We've had a few rain falls since then.
