Last I heard, Wink mirrors were illegal in most states, usually for the reason mentioned above. People get so engrossed in what is happening behind them that they lose track of what is ahead!

At one time, it seems to me that they had a warning on them, "For track use only", taking the item back to its roots, the track.

I can't find the reference in CA law that would make it illegal. Can you share your source, please?

I'm not taking it off, either way; the increased visibility is good for someone that won't get distracted.

the visors need to be removed, and small holes are drilled in the the sheet metal that houses the clip holdings for the visors.... most car's visors are held in by screws (im guessing?) but the yaris' visors are held in by clips, lol.
drilling is non damaging and visors can be replaced. I have seen modifications to the wink mirror to hide it behind the visors but I wouldnt think this would work with the yaris as you'd have to place them back so far that they would start to intrude on visualization of the road ahead of you.

If you mount the Wink onto the glass at the top of the windshield (they have a kit for that), you can keep the visors, and use them if needed. You also don't have to drill anything. I did not do it that way, though.

I would think you'd get a lot of vibration in the mirror if you had one mount point....

Sorry, I don't have documentation on the legality of Wink mirrors. I'm not even sure it was strictly the Motor Vehicles guys, it may have been the insurance leeches. Besides, my memories of Wink mirrors go back to the beginning, two generations ago. Let us know what you find out...

The glass kit allows you to mount it on the glass with two attachment points.
