Vehicles being stolen using a laptop

How can I password protect the ECU of my Yaris so someone can't come along & reprogram the security code from the one in my chip/Key, to one they have.
This is a new problem, that all car manufacturers are going to have to deal with, read THIS ARTICLE

With Toyota and I bet many other makes one needs a master key to program additional keys.
In order to register a complete new key set one needs to reset immobilizer in the ECU and that requires contact with Toyota online and now they will even call the dealership to make sure you are who you are... Things have changed its way more secure.
This is do to similar issues here in Canada few yrs back using a Toyota infostream program to basically recode car.
I personally would not worry cos by the sounds of the story it was an inside job.

Install a starter or ign kill switch in a hidden location. This is the best anti-theft for any car as it is custom and thieves don't know where the switch is.

If they really want the car they`ll take it no matter what. Even taken away on a flat bed towing which they drag onto it.

I live in a city where if they really want your car they will steal it no matter what. I seen tow trucks come and pick cars up in like 20 seconds in the early morning and no one wakes up. Civics, Integras, 240sx, anything that looks of value. I would just suggest not bumping your sound system everywhere and don't buy expensive rims. Hide all valuables from sight and if you get an alarm. Get an extra siren hooked up inside the car under the dash facing the driver.

Many years ago I lived in an apartment complex where the manager owned a Corvette. She had all kinds of security devices on it, but one morning the parking spot where it was sitting was vacant. Turned out the thieves found a way to steal it without ever breaking into it. I won't say how it was done, but it proves that if criminals really want your car, they're gonna find a way to get it!

Article says they stole Jeep and Dodge vehicles. Chrysler cars, and only Chrysler cars, have been in the news a lot lately regarding their vulnerability to hacking. I think maybe it's just a Chrysler thing...

Anti-theft protection

Need to replace springs with airbags and drop er right to the pavement when parked, so harder to for thieves to connect a winch cable.

I'll bet it was a C4. A very well-known trick was to drill a hole in the body near the battery, which drilled INTO the battery, which then drained the battery acid, which killed the battery and of course the alarm went dead.
